Description

Really nice belay jacket from Cloudveil - I was looking at the Patagonia DAS parka but chose this instead due to price. It's a very similar product - fairly thick, puffy Primaloft fill, a big helmet compatible hood with simple adjustment and decent pockets (both external and internal). The hood is one of the best I've ever seen on a jacket, just one drawcord and perfect fit no matter what you wear underneath. There are nice big pockets - 2 hand + 1 chest, along with big mesh storage pockets on the inside which are good for storing damp gloves/spare bits and bobs. There's also a weird "skirt" inside the hem of the jacket - a bit like a powder skirt but a lot more simple - it works pretty well at stopping drafts although it takes a bit of getting used to. If it bothers you, you could probably cut it out. The only negative that I can think of is that the fabric seems to wet out in damp conditions around the freezing mark. This isn't really a problem as long as the jacket is washed and reproofed regularly. The Primaloft fill seems to be thicker than on some jackets, such as the TNF Redpoint and Marmot Flurry - this means that the weight of the Enclosure is higher however. All in all an excellent choice for alpine conditions where reliable warmth is required.
