Forged from anodized 2014 T6 aluminum alloy, the compact and lightweight Super 8 is a “climbers” figure 8. On rappel, it will provide more friction and is easier to lock off. Dedicated rappellers may want to choose a beefier figure 8. - - - Manufactures product details recommend that the; "Wild Country Super 8 Descender" NOT be used for belay, however I have belayed on figure-of-eight for year and have caught one of my ~chunkier~ partners on numerous whippers.If you do choose to use a figure-of-eight for belay purposes, I would strongly suggest that you learn the effects and subsequent technique in a controlled environment such as a climbing gym with crash pads, and wear gloves! -
