Large but light, the Airlock2 Twist by Black Diamond is designed to work smoothly with any belay system, whether its an ATC, Super 8 or Munter hitch. A large internal volume holds all the bulky knots, harness webbing and stacks of runners you could ever need. Available in both Twistlock and Screwgate versions both of which can be operated with one hand, the Airlock2 is simple, easy to operate and wont lock up under body weight.

Good 'biner, could've been better 3 out of 5 stars

Review by: ja1484, 2007-05-25

Have a couple of these I picked up on discount after they were discontinued.

Firstly, the pros: The gate is easy to operate single handedly, and the large size means there's lots of room on this 'biner for several connections. They make good powerpoint 'biners. Slightly more security than a screwgate, but not quite the warm fuzzy feeling of a 2 or 3 stage autolocker.

Then the mediocre: The gate seems particularly vulnerable to dirt and grit - a good cleaning restores the gate to a nice smooth action, but I have to do it a bit more than I'd like.

Overall, nothing making is rise above the pack, but nothing makes it noticably worse than the competition. A good, standard, vanilla workhorse biner.

It's a great belay 'biner. The notchless nose is a great feature (the picture above is of the original model, which is no longer produced.) and it's huge.

The one complaint I've got is that with enough use and abuse, the lock can become sticky, and sometimes get stuck in the open position. If you become lax about checking to ensure that the gate has autolocked ... well, it might not autolock ... and you're left in a potentially dangerous position.

Best auto-locker I've used. One fluid motion to unlock - no messing with ball-locks/twist-then-pull-up/screw-gates/etc. Just plain great biner.

kinda heavy, but good size, and i actually like the twistlock feature without the 'ball' like the petzl twistlock carabiner.

Good autolocker 4 out of 5 stars

doesn't have a 'secondary' locking action, so a simple twist will unlock it, which makes it nice for belaying at the gym. It's very slightly smaller and lighter than the RockLock which replaced it, (though it's heavier and larger than something like a positron) but doesn't have the keylock nose like the RockLock, so the notch can get hung up on gear. With a little practice it's easy to unlock with one hand, and the spring is pretty strong.
