Misty Mountain sonic 5 out of 5 stars

Review by: jeepnphreak, 2010-02-05

Well after reading the reviews on this harness on RC.com most people seam to really like this harness. I have been using mine for several months ice climbing and light alpine and it ranks as one of the best harnesses I have ever had.
skidawg- Iam not sure what your issue was but the loop that hold the padding in works fine and the gear loops are perfectly centered for me, So I call your review user error.

This is my 6 th harness, all other were either BD or petzl, all of with worked just fine, but all put pressure on my legs in a hanging belay. But as far as comfort goes, the Sonic is increadble, it fits so well, I can hardly feel it. I lasted in a 30 minute hanging belay and my legs did not go to sleep. The gear loops can hold all most my full trad rack if I wanted to rack up on the harness. It has a ton of ajustability for any season, it fits with shots to snow pants on. Misty is deffantly high on my list for my next harness, possibly the cadi will be next for me.
I have one small issure that really is not a big deal, when seconding/cleaning, and I start out with no gear on the gear loops, the loops un loaded stick straight up with can get in the way of clothing. So cliping your fitst biner/gear can be annoying. once there is one biner or more the loops are just fine.

Got this harness after I grew out of my Petzl Corvus. This coincided with my beginning to lead trad, so the Misty was the perfect answer. 4 months and a couple of sport whippers later, I have no regrets. This harness is comfortable all day on multi-pitch, including hanging belays. Misty really seems to have figured the foam thing out. The plastic-clad, flexible loops rack gear beautifully and the overall durability and craftmanship are superb. Not a flashy piece, but that's what chalkbags are for. If you want an imminently functional, durable harness, this is it. Go get one already.

After having used this harness for a bit longer than I had on my last review, I decided it should be rated less than I had given it initially. It is a pretty comfortable harness, and is very sturdy and such, but when I synch it down, my gear loops are all offset, and go to my left side (I'm not the only one that has this problem, and yes it is the size for me). The strap that holds the waist belt padding also is so close to the buckle, that you can never get the padding close enough to put it in the strap to keep the strap in place (and I have it sinched down very far, I'm by no means overweight). So basicly if you get it for a good price then it's ok, and comfortable, but for $80, it's definitely not worth it...you could get at top of the line harness from another company for that much.

I have been using this harness for about a year on trad, sport, and ice. It would be hard to imagine a better harness. Pricey, but comfy and durable.
