Description

The Sphynx is a light, clean, remarkably durable rock and ice pack. With its traditional top-loading design, the Sphynx holds most everything a party of two could need for climbing, while offering a removeable dual-density foam bivy pad and an internal clip-in point for easy access on multi-pitch routes. Designed from burly 420d nylon and Ballistics-reinforced fabric, the Sphynx is both durable and lightweight. A single removable aluminum stay, molded-foam back panel and a cushy waistbelt offer maximum support and comfort. Attention to details like hydration ports, SternumTrac shoulder straps, ice clipper slots on the waistbelt and innovative Hypalon daisy chains make this pack perfectly suited for smart alpine travel.

Black Diamond Sphynx 5 out of 5 stars

This is one of my favorite packs and it happily pulls double duty with the summer trad rack and winter ice gear. I enjoy the features of this pack, as the design lends itself to multi-use without all the extraneous bells and whistles so often associated with a "do-it-all" pack.

The thing I most enjoy about this pack is the well thought out economy of design. This pack is neat, simple, lightweight and very straightforward. I have the 42L and can slip all my gear and then some with ease. Despite the lack of beefy foam in the shoulder straps and waist belt, it delivers a surprisingly comfortable ride!

I would have rated this pack a 4.5 as my only point of contention with this pack is the lack of an external crampon pouch, or crampon attachment system of some sort. Granted, this is hardly missed in the heat of July, but external attachments are incredibly handy on approaches when it is time to strap the spikes on; no digging through mounds of gear with frozen fingertips (as this is a traditional top-loader). But, I went with the 5 as this pack does not deserve a "4".

All said and done, this is a great daypack for rock or ice. If you are in the market for a relatively inexpensive alternative to lugging reasonable loads to your favorite crag or frozen drip in the woods, consider the BD Sphynx; you won't be disappointed!

Inexpensive, light, comfortable, durable. What more can you ask for in a pack? My favorite technical pack so far.

This is the worlds best sport day pack!! It fits rope, shoes, harness, draws, slings, food, everythings. If I had a trad rack it could probably get shoved in there too. And I can use it for short day hikes when I'm not climbing. Hydration ready, clips outside, pocket on top, water resistance. If it had a side entrance it would be the perfect pack for anything.

I have the 35L and it works great for haulin gear around, the internal seat is nice as well as the heavily padded back (to keep trad gear from poking you), also there are many differnt places to attach tents to it with caribingers and there is a nice rope holder that fits right under the top cover, and it being waterproof is even better, only thing i wish to be different would be for it to have another internal pocket besides the one for the hydration pack, but over-all i think this is the best pack ive seen for the money and its so comfortable even with a bunch of gear in.

really durable, light weight, enough room for about a 3-4 day (45l) trip if you pack light, very simple, burly daisy chain, easy to adjust. Its has a wierd shape if its not packed fully and throws off the top compartment. Made it through a two week road/camping trip, used it on a 7 hour summit hike, its a good pack and i look forward to giving it more abuse.
