Description

(from Alaska Mountaineering)

La Sportiva Nuptse:

We have seen many items of gear labeled with the name Alaska, some good, some not so good but these boots unquestionably should have the Alaska name and are without a doubt the absolute Alaska boot. The Nupste is a slim and trim double boot for any technical route in the Alaska Range and of course this includes any route on McKinley. Half-sized shells and liners provide a comfortable and precise performance fit just like leather boots with the warmth of double boots. The outer boot is constructed with a proprietary package of materials consisting of PU coated Cordura (what airport and park benches are constructed from) with insulation plus an internal aluminum thermo-reflective coating for warmth and protection. The upper ankle collar is 2.9mm Idro-Perw leather for a wide range of arctulation. The deep lugged La Sportiva MPE outsole gives excellent traction on snow, ice and rock while easily taking step-in crampons.

This boot is in hot demand so, we cannot stress enough to order these boots as soon as possible.

  • Weight: 6 lbs / size 42
  • Outer Boot: Insulated 5-ply synthetic PU coated proprietary package with thermo-reflective aluminum facing
  • Inner Boot: High density closed cell PE foam micro perforated for breathability
  • Construction: Board Lasted
  • Last: Nuptse
  • Lining: Thermo-reflective aluminum facing with anti-abrasion flocking
  • Sole: La Sportiva MPE w/ rubber rand
  • Midsole: SBR Aircushion
  • Insole: 5mm insulating structured carbon fiber, with a Polyester central insert with aluminium insulation

Shop Talk: The Nuptse provides the answer to the clunky double boot quandary. The half-sized insulated shell and heat moldable liner provide an extraordinarily warm yet phenomenal agile boot. The liner has laces for dialing in the perfect fit and a non-skid sole for those quick trips from the tent when nature calls. This boot screams technical climbing in cold environments and has had great success at that feat. Our #1 selling boot by a wide margin for the Alaska Range: West Buttress, West Rib, Sultana Ridge, West Face Col, Moonflower and ice routes in The Great Gorge. This boot has even Valdez grade 5 ice and local mixed nasties under its foot. If you are looking for the warmth of a double boot (these boots are incredibly warm) with the technical prowess of slim leather boots, put a pair of these on your feet and get to climbing.

Contrary to advertising, these boots are not available in sizes larger than 47.

I use these to splitboard in, they havn't held up very well, but they get the job done, I also hike and ice climb in them, they performed well. My only complaint is durability.
