Spirit Review 4 out of 5 stars

I purchased my shoe last year and have been nothing but pleased. I have practically no arch and a narrow heel but they fit great. I downsized two whole sizes, they stretch considerably, and I might go down another half size with my next pair. I have climbed everything from gym/outdoor bouldering to trad in Eldorado Canyon in them and have not really ever found them to be the blame for a failed climb. The reason I didn't give them a five is that haven't climbed in very many different shoes so something could be better.

Loved 'em, but... 2 out of 5 stars

I was a huge fan of these shoes. In some ways I still am, as they've given me good performance, and good fit. I have a wide foot, so finding a shoe that was comfortable, and where I could get my toes into the nose of the shoe was hard. I replaced my first pair about a year ago, after a year of wear, primarily because of foot funk. My second pair started to fall apart after just a couple of weeks of climbing in the gym - the leather split about a quarter inch above the rand on the side. My local gym took care of me, and the third pair last eight or ten months before they too started to split on the sides, and I picked up a fourth pair on sale. I've been wearing the fourth pair less than two months and they're totally coming apart on the sides.

I don't know if Red Chili just got some bad leather or what, but even on sale I won't be buying their shoes again for a while, as they obviously have a quality control problem.

A great allround shoe. I have used mine for two years (resoled once) and have nothing to complain about. Like others said, it stretches a bit, so buy a tight fit.

While the current issue of Rock and Ice describes these as sport and gym climbing shoes I believe they're excellent all-rounders. I've used them to climbe granite and sandstone slabs as well as cracks and overhanging sport routes. I'm about to buy my second pair after re-soling my first three times. Red Chili rubber is good but I noticed that 5.10 Stealth resoles add to their performance. Yep they stretch a little so size 'em smaller. I find a 42.5 in Spirits more comfortable than 43.5 in the more aggressive Phantoms.

Comfy but still performs well. I sized it with a little bit of toe curl and like the profile...somewhat pointed towards the big toe. I use these as semi-comfy shoes. No real problems with the rubber (climbing mostly in the gunks) but I might not like it so much on pure slab.
