Sesspool in the Buckskin Gluch toward Paria River

We started our trek at the Utah/Arizona border in the Buckskin Gulch. This picture was taken on day two, when we finally hit water in the gulch. The water kept getting deeper and muckier. this was the worst part. That's my chapstick in my mouth. Better than being in my pocket exposed to the organic matter. It was thick and bouncy. Have no idea what we were stepping in. Later that day, we hit the Paria River and headed downstream to Lees Ferry. Total trip took us 5 days, I think. Gorgeous!!
