About River Cliffs:

Shortly before the tourist town of KuKuan. River cliffs used for training military personel. Rapelling and minimal climbing on polished sandstone. A recent typhoon and the resulting floodwaters resulted in the bed of the river rising 10 meters. So the lower cliff band is now gone. The old tyrolean traverse is now gone too (the cables would now be touching the river bed if they hadn't been ripped out and carried downstream). The whole river in the KuKuan area has changed radically. Technically, this climbing area is closed to civillian climbing because of its use by the military. Climb at your own risk.
Nearest town or city: KuKuan
Directions: Start up the cross-island highway from Taichung. Just before KuKuan there is a military base on the left. At the far end of the base (the "back door"), look to your right where you will see an open sided steel building at the cliff edge. Park here and take the paths down to the river.
