About Gara gorge:
Gara Gorge is part of Oxley Wild Rivers National Park of New South Wales. It is the scenic gorge country, 90,000 hectares of it, making it the seventh largest national park in the state. It contains the 50,000ha Macleay Gorges Wilderness Area and is listed on the register of World Heritage sites in recognition of its importance to nature conservation. Only 15 km from Armidale, Gara Gorge is such a convenient and great bouldering spot with 100 routes (50 in this guide so far) on a variety of thin crimps, gritty slopers, huge flakes and a bit of everything else thrown in. |

Directions: | From Armidale head east on hwy 78 (grafton rd), after about 2km from town turn right onto Castledoyle Rd. Follow this to the end. The road will turn to dirt at a cattle guard, keep on this road til you see the signs. The first parking area is a good place to swim. Follow the road around to the right until you get to the 2nd parking area. The online guide (see link below) uses this parking area as a reference. |
