About Statham's Quarry:

Statham's quarry is about 40 minutes drive from Perth in the suburb of Gooseberry. The climbs here aren't world class, but worth a visit if you live in Perth.

Access is nice and easy with a five minute walk in (or if you know the code to the gate then you can drive into the quarry). There is a picnic table, drop toilet and quite a nice view of the surrounding hills/Perth city. The quarry is often used by commercial abseiling groups, so quite a few abseil anchors have been installed at the top of some parts of the quarry. Remember to bring bolt plates, as most of the bolts don't have fixed hangers.

Most of the climbs are low-mid range trad routes or high grade sport climbs. There is quite a bit of loose rock around the top of the cliff, and sometimes non-climbers come and throw stones, so a helmet can be useful. Some of the climbs also have scary dirt top-outs. Guide books are Perth Rock Climbing Guide by CAWA and Perth ROCK from Climbwest (I think Perth ROCK has a guide to Statham's).

There are a few new routes that have been put up since the guidebooks have been published. These are described in the routes section below: Real Life Ambition in the Rubble Walls area, Twenty Easy Steps in the Central Slab Area and Kid Rock, Quickie and Child's Play in the Right Bay Area. For more info get your hands on a copy of Western Climber Nov-Jan03 and Feb-Apr03

Go to the Zig-Zag scenic drive (look in Perth UBD) and park at the third sharp bend park in the clearing (approx 40 minutes drive from Perth). Follow the path for about 5 minutes until the top of the quarry is reached (you will pass a gate that is normally open). The bottom of the quarry can be reached from either side.
