Gibraltar Rock
About Gibraltar Rock:
The prominant lava plug overlooking Tai Tapu. is easy to spot as you drive along The Summit road towards Gebbies Pass (Akaroa) Park at the carpark (on a blind corner). Easiest access is to follow the signs towards the crag until a squareish rock about the size of a TV is seen then follow a vague track to the right(north). Sidle around to the west side where the climbing lines are. Note: As of 28-12-2005, all old bolts/anchors have been replaced with new 3/8" stainless steel. The top anchors are now double bolts with hangers (no rings, due to the relatively easy walk/scramble off). |
