About Mt Earnslaw:
Mt Earnslaw (2819m) is situated at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu. It provides a few easy to medium mountaineering routes. Expect a long approach from Rees Valley to the start of the real climbing at Esquilant Biv (a whole of a day), as there is a 2000m elevation gain! |

Directions: | From Queenstown, drive to Glenorchy and turn right up the Rees Valley. Park at Muddy Creek (if you have a 4wd or a car which thrives on rough conditions you can sometimes get further). Walk up to Earnslaw Hut and continue up the Birely Glacier, over Wright Col and to Esquilant Biv. Some rock bivies are available between Earnslaw Hut and Esquilant Biv. |
