About Sebastapol Bluffs:
The only crag in New Zealand with true multi-pitch within 10 minutes of the carpark. Most of the quality routes are single pitch, but some go up to 7 pitches, and are mostly bolted. A basic rack is needed to fully protect many of the better routes, and some are trad only. Even though much of the rock on the more traveled routes is quite solid, there are other routes with somewhat less stable rock, and a helmet should be worn at all times. Plenty of good accomodation is to be found in and around Mt Cook Village, from camping to full-on hotel. The youth hostel used to even have an indoor bouldering wall, but apparently a large bus ran into it and it was destroyed. Note: there is no supermarket close by, so if you plan on feeding yourself, bring food with you. |
