About Avon Gorge(OS):

Closeness to a city centre and over 300 routes make this a very popular crag. The easy grades tend to be poorly protected, the low Extremes seem to be the best of the lot. A lot of quarried and blasted rock up to 300 feet high, but the buttress below the bridge is natural and has about 20 routes HVS and up, except for the classic arete that goes at VS. Descent is via rappell, and it can be muddy and noisy, but it is the fastest drying cliff in the country. If it rains, stay on the route and it will be dry in five minutes. Well worth a visit. |
