About Ash Head Crags(OS):
Use caution when climbing here during grouse season, the crag is located on a grouse shooting moor. This 30 to 50 foot gritstone crag has about 20 routes from SEVERE to the low EXTREME grades. Thunder Crack, which goes through the main overhang, is actually only VS. Worth a visit on a sunny day, can be cold because it is at 1300 feet above sea level and exposed to cold north winds. |

Directions: | OS99--GR144/754 11 miles WNW of Ripon. From Masham on the A6108, take the small road to Leighton Reservoir. The road bends around and crosses over an arm of the reservoir, follow it for two miles and you can then look across left to the crag about one mile away. Stay on the road for one more mile, passing a bridge over a stream. A path on the left leads across the moor to a small gully, then up to the crags. |
