About Chaos of Targassonne (bouldering):
Targasona is a bouldering area located in the Cerdagne, a massif of the eastern Pyrénées, el. 1500m / 4500 ft. The village of of Targasonne is near the ski-resort of Font-Romeu which is well known as being a place where French athletes train in high altitude before major sporting events. It's 180 km south of the major city of Toulouse or 100 km west of the city of Perpignan The boulders are made of granite, contrary to Bleau where the stone is sandstone. The grain is supposed to be pretty abrasive. The area offers more than 700 problems, so everyone should find something fitting his desires. Go check THE french website on Targassonne : http://targabloc.apinc.org/ . Many private campgrounds in Targasonne and Font-Romeu. As Font-Romeu is near the small country of Andorra (25 km away), don't hesitate to go shopping there as you will find a lot of mountaineering products without taxes... It's 20 minutes from Spain, where you might go shopping for less than in France, too. |

Directions: | From Perpignan (90 km, 90 minutes), drive westwards on N116 through Ille-sur-Têt and Montlouis. In Montlouis, take D618 to Font-Romeu. Targasonne is 4.5 km after Font-Romeu on the D618, and the bouldering chaos is 2 km after the village of Targassonne. From Toulouse (180 km ; 2h30'), drive southwards on highway E9 to Pamiers, then on E9/N20 to Foix and then Ax-les-Thermes. You then drive near the Andorra-France border. Before Bourg-Madame, turn east in the village of Ur to take the D618 : Targasonne is 10 km after Ur. |
