About Steinbruch Schriesheim:

Old quarry with four steps which are connected with ladders and wire ropes. Nice view. Up to 30 metres high. Many routes are well bolted, but some need additional protection. Some clean routes are there, too. Climbing is restricted because of nature conservation. The allowed areas are marked with arrow signs. Please do not leave any litter there. Camping and fire making is strictly forbidden! A campsite is somewhere near the city of Schriesheim (I saw some signs).

Almost all routes have a solidly bolted ring or karabiner at top for rappeling or for installing a toprope. To minimze the wear of these please use a locking carabiner for toproping and rappel at the end. It is not a bad idea to bring a helmet, because at some routes there are loose rocks.
Nearest town or city: Schriesheim (near Heidelberg)
Directions: Coming from Darmstadt/Frankfurt drive highway A5 until exit Ladenburg and then to Schriesheim.
You may also drive the B3 to get there. In Schriesheim drive in direction Wilhelmsfeld/Schönau (at a traffic light to the left over a railroad track). Then at the first traffic light turn right into Bismarkstrasse, then the second street left (Bahnhofsstrasse). At the end of this road turn right and immediately left into Kehlweg. Before the road turns right at top you'll see a sign at the left which shows a footpath to the remains of the Strahlenburg (Fussweg Strahlenburg). Park here and walk up to the castle. You don't have to follow this exactly, this only one possibility. Only drive up the hill towards the widly visible remains of the Strahlenburg and walk trough the wineyards up to the parking lot of the castle. You can also drive up there, but on weekends the parking lot ist only for visitors of the castle remains (and the pub of course).

At the parking lot of the Strahlenburg you see a signpost. On this sign is a map, where you can see the quarry already. Walk up the non-asphalt street right of the sign until you see a commemorative plaque on the left. Walk up the steep and stoney footpath between the wineyard and the forest. You will cross a non-asphalt road twice. Stay on this road if you hit it the third time and walk up in the forest until you see a wooden bench on the lefthand side. Turn right towards south on the flat foot path (big one). Walk about 500 metres until you see a sign, some kind of old gate and a path heading upwards to the left. Take this path and walk to the quarry. For those with a GPS here are some coordinates:
N49.4745902 E8.6706534 Parking at the Strahlenburg (very limited space, mostly reserver for visiters of the Strahlenburg ruin).
N49.4733195 E8.6678547 Parking in the City, just below the Strahlenburg (take the footpath up to the Strahlenburg through the wineyards)
Finally the coordinates of the signpost at the Entrance of the quarry: N49.4686848 E8.6781886
Latitude, Longitude: 49.46868, 8.67819
Access Issues: This seems a little old. You can't see the castle ruins while you are driving up. Just follow the road once you turn uphill and pass the abandoned hotel building. You will see signs directing you up to Strahlneburg. From the parking area make your way uphill. You can take the long but easy road or the steeper shortcuts until you come to an intersection with a wooden sign showing local wildlife, etc. From here you can hike uphill on a trail to a picnic hut or continue right on the road. If you take the trail uphill you will need to turn right on a small climbers trail immediately after the and cross the woods to access the upper terraces. Continuing up from the hut will access the top of the cliffs and it is forbidden to rappel or climb from here. If you continue on the road to the right after the intersection sign you will come to a trail on the left currently marked with a klettern area sign. This is the bottom terrace.
