This region has the greatest climbing in Wales, if not in the world! There are climbs of all standards, types and lengths. The crags are scattered from the valley floors to the summits of mountains and offer climbing on unrivaled beauty and interest. Most of the crags are easily identified and accessed since, although the valleys are deep, they virtually all have roads in. In poor weather, the higher crags can become quite hostile, so sufficient warm clothing and food should be carried. A map and compass are also useful for getting back to the car quickly in poor weather, but by walking downhill, you will always arrive at a road in less than two hours. The crags really need good weather, and the north facing ones need at least a day to dry out after rain. Protection is usually very good and double ropes are very useful to cut down on drag since most of the routes wander around quite a bit. THERE ARE NO BOLTS IN THE MOUNTAINS, AND THEY ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!!!
