Description:
APPROACH--25 miles from the 2,400 foot floatplane lake (west of the park boundary), up Somber Creek, then up the Herron Glacier to the 5,000 foot base of the West Spur.
TOTAL TIME--21 to 30 days
VERTICAL GAIN--12,400 feet
DIFFICULTIES & DANGERS--There are no real technical difficulties aside from the lengthy approach and one section of knife-edge ridge climbing.
CAMPS--7,400 (notch in ridge); 8,900 (junction of west and north forks of ridge); 11,700 (after cornicing); 14,200 (above icefall).
