About Oak Creek Over Look:

Huge tourist trap so get there early. Tourist area is CLOSED TO CLIMBING! Climb to the north of the bathrooms to avoid rocks falling down on you.

Be careful when setting up rappels and top ropes. There is a lot of loose rock at the top. TIE IN AND ANCHOR OFF ON THE TOP to prevent this area from being closed.

Part of an ancient lava flow from the San Fransico Peaks this great Basalt offers Lots of good cracks and more. If you are planning on top roping bring a lot of webing and some padding. This is a year round spot but it is either very cold or very hot. "No bolts" and plenty of moderate crack climbing. So please if you can't make the route, top rope it.

Nearest town or city: Sedona
Directions: Top of switch backs turn right if heading to Flagstaff. After a day of climbing spend the night at Don Hols Cabins south of the overlook in Oak Creek Canyon. There is camping (Primitive) off of a f.s. road accross the street from the O.C. parking lot, and also some campgrounds in O.C. canyon. Make sure to check with the forest service about camping and fire restrictions before you camp. PLEASE make sure you drown your fires out. Make sure they are cold to the touch when you leave. Remember even though you are in a beautiful pine forest, you are still in a desert region. Everyone is tierd of seeing this state on fire every year.
