About Silly Rock:

This area is very diverse. There are about 4 main crags at Silly Rock (Rock Front Ranch): Owl Tor, Miller's Crossing, Big Rocks (Swiss Cheese Wall), and Mr. Lee's. Owl Tor and Mr. Lee's are overhanging sport areas with few routes under 5.11. Miller's Crossing and Big Rocks are intermediate sport areas with very few climbs harder than 5.11. Good for intermediate climbers. The rock is much like the Pinnacles. This whole area is very fun. Some areas are off limits during nesting season (generally during winter months until March or April). Keep an eye out for nesting birds and stay away. All areas are bolted really well. Extremely pretty during the spring, hot in summer but shade is abundant. Avoid after rains and let the rock dry. Swiss Cheese Wall (at Big Rocks) has seen a lot of new activity (2004-2005). Lots of new stuff.
Nearest town or city: Santa Maria/Nipomo
Directions: From HWY 101, take HWY 166 east for about 25 miles. Turn left into Rock Front Ranch and cross the creek. Owl Tor is 1 mile in, Big Rocks is 2 miles in (can't miss it) and Mr. Lee's is about 3 miles in.
