About Emeralds, The:

The Gorge and the Wishing Well (which are not yet added to this area but are currently being developed) are located below the outlet gates of Spaulding Reservoir and in the spring and winter can be subject to flooding if the gates are opened. There are posted signs in the area which warn of this possibility. Once the lake level is below the bottom of the gates, which usually occurs in the spring, there is no possibility of flooding. It is easy to determine the level of the lake by hiking to the gates and looking. None of the Climbing Sections listed here are subject to this flooding potential.
Nearest town or city: Emigrant Gap
Directions:

From I-80, exit onto Hwy. 20 and drive four miles toward Nevada City. Turn north onto Bowman Lake Rd. and drive for 1.4 miles. Just before the bridge that crosses the Yuba River, turn right on the dirt access road(this road is sometimes gated so you might have to walk in). Stay on this dirt road for about 0.6 mile, passing through a quarry and some trees. You will reach some boulders on your right and Steel Monkey Wall is behind these boulders. The Benches crags are above Steel Monkey Wall and The Gorge is at the end of the dirt entry road.
