About Dixon Lake:

This fun little area has some bouldering and a few quaility topropes or short leads on clean granite. There is a $3 fee to enter Lake Dixon (when rangers are present -- usually only on weekends -- the fee went up in July 2004), a popular fishing reservoir. The medium is solid, with some nice cracks and steep faces providing the highlights. A few bolts, including a couple short leads, are found here, but a small rack of gear, especially large gear, and some long slings are required to toprope most routes. With its sinfully short approach, this area is quite popular with local climbers, and Daley Ranch may offer new territory to develop.
Nearest town or city: Escondido
Directions: Take I-15 to Escondido to the El Norte Parkway exit and go east through town 3.3 miles to La Honda Drive. (Shortcut: Take 78E, exit Centre City Parkway, head north, turn right on El Norte, follow El Norte to La Honda.) Turn left here and follow it to the entrance station, just beyond the large parking lot for the Daley Ranch. Enter the lake road and immediately turn right, and drive .4 miles to the Trout Cove parking lot, the second parking area encountered. Directly across from the parking lot follow the short trail over to the formations.
