About Big Elk Meadows:

Good quality Granite bouldering with flat, soft landings and in an excellent setting next to a creek. Easy approach.
Nearest town or city: Big Elk Meadows
Directions: From Boulder take US 36 towards Estes Park. Go through the town of Lyons and stay on US 36 for 8 miles to Pinewood Springs. Take a left on County Road #47 (there is a sign that says Big Elk Meadows). Follow CR #47 for about 2.2 miles and park in a small turnout on the right side of the road. A trail goes immediately down the hill west from the parking area. Follow this trail across a small creek (big irrigation ditch) and then follow a larger creek for 10 minutes or so. Cross this creek at a cairn. The trail will branch. Taking the right fork takes you to the Dragon's Den area. Taking the left fork takes you to the main area. The best rock is at the Sanctuary which is the last bit of rock in the main area.

A roadside area exists across the street from the parking area. The DOUBLE TROUBLE block is another roadside area downhill from this parking area. It's about 1 mile back north down the road. Look for a trail leading off the east side of the road. This block has only 3 problems (V4, V6, V9) but they are the best problems in this area.
