Cracked Canyon
About Cracked Canyon:
Cracked Canyon, located near The Ophir Wall offers great beginner to difficult climbing with nearly a hundred routes, all of excellent quality. Most of the routes, are traditional, or mixed, but a few purely bolted lines exist. The routes range in difficulty from 5.3 to 5.13, with an emphasis in the 5.7-5.10 range. Hard rhyolite makes broken holds and falling rock from climbs almost obsolete. The climbing is at a fairly high elevation, so even in summer storms can move in fast and violently. Late spring through fall is the best time to come, mid summer is often warm, but the orientation of the canyon makes it possible to find shade at any time of the day. Weekends tend to be crowded, so go during the week if you don't like standing in line. |
