About Alapocas Woods Park:
The rocks are on the back side of the park, and follow the Brandywine River. It's a little cliff band with mostly choss, but some faces are bolted and could host some topropes although roping up is not allowed in the park(unless you have a permit, see park office). Many boulder problems exist along this cliff. With several routes already established, there are many more to be found I'm sure. There is definetly some potential here, but for now it'll definetly do as a fix for those of us stuck in northern Delaware. |
Nearest town or city: | Wilmington |
Directions: | From I-95 take the rt 202 westbound exit in Wilmington. Go about 1/2 a mile then make a left onto rt. 141 south. Shortly on the left should be a small road that you can turn onto, that's Alopocas drive. Go through the stop sign and either make an immediate right (right after the plant entrance complete with guard stations) and go down to the parking lot and use the trails to hike in, or go down further on alopocas drive and use a small parking area on your right to access the trails. (Unfortunately, I believe this parking section along Alapocas Dr. is no longer available, 10/11/06) |
