About Illinois:
There is a lifetime -a couple of lifetimes- of stone to enjoy in the southern part of the state. The best part of climbing in the region, bouldering, sport, trad, in a full range of difficulty, is found in destinations that are all just minutes from each other. Jackson Falls is the premier climbing area in southern Illinois, for routes and for bouldering. The best and highest trad routes, along with a great variety of high quality sport routes, are only minutes away at Drapers Bluff, and Cedar Bluff. Nearby is another good and popular crag, and camping area, Ferne Clyffe State Park. A list of recommended routes for the southern Illinois area is available. To the north is Mississippi Palisades, where a climber can enjoy the area year-round, including ice-climbing, and Starved Rock for ice climbing.
(As of 4-21-03, some Areas have been deleted due to concern over sensitive access issues. The ICA, The Access Fund, and local climbers will continue to work for climbers interests where and when possible. Until and unless access is open and public, closed and restricted areas will be deleted from this database.) |
