About Windy Canyon:

Windy Canyon is located approximately 1 mile south of Black Velvet Canyon and is home to a south facing, 1000' high wall. Several routes have been done on this wall and all are sustained at the grade and not for the beginning leader at any of the grades. The rock is good and the climbing is amazing, and best of all, very few venture into the canyon due to its approach, usually leaving you all alone on the wall.

Access:Although you probably should not camp, because it is not located in the loop road, access is 24 hours a day and free. You will want a sturdy car with some clearance for the trip in, but 4wd is not necessary.

When to climb: Climbing here is best in the fall and spring when daylight is good and temps are moderate.

Classics: Jubilant Song, Hot Fudge Thursday

Nearest town or city: Red Rock
Directions: Take highway 160 towards Pahrump. Pass the junction with Highway 159 (to the loop road) and keep heading west. You'll see a large dirt road on your right, this is the road to Black Velvet Canyon. Take this road and follow it for a ways. After about a mile or so, before the road ends, a turnoff will appear on your left. Head this way and follow it to a four-way intersection. At this intersection, make a right and follow the road west toward the escarpment. Soon, the road will turn to the left. A parking area will appear on your right. You can park here or continue up another 200 yards or so to another parking area, which is the official trail head.
