Description:

Start at the southwestern coast of South America on a ledge off the coast. Follow the coast all the way up to panama. Great route with the crux being traversing onto a skinny crack 20 or 30 feet up and then up and over the step up, use the undercling. F.A. Duane Raleigh, Lee Stewart (1979)

5 out of 5 stars Splendid

I LOVED this climb. Set out to climb South Pacific, but ended up on this route. I loved every minute of it. Took gear just about everywhere you wanted it, and had some easy run outs as well. This is now one of my all time favorite routes. A true Quartz classic IMO. Only, sketchy part is the start, traversing over to the overlap with the finger crack. Definitely a 5.8 as guide book says.

4 out of 5 stars better than expected!

I guess I followed the line, at least according to Dave's description . . . look forward to doing it again, actually, and sticking to the wide crack above the start. The other way felt like a cop-out onto South Pacific . . . coming back for the offwidth!

4 out of 5 stars South Africa

Used the largest tri-cam (yellow sling) to protect the short traverse left to the bottom of the chevron. Love the way this route sucks up gear where ever you want it!
