About McAfee:
| McAfee possesses insane amounts of bouldering. There is a ton of rock up there and even some climbing on the hike in. There are many established problems, and always more to come. There are two large sections of boulders at the top. One section is on the East and one is on the west. I would dare to say there are 50+ climbable boulders in the area. For those not looking to break a sweat, the fire trail has excellent bouldering if you don't want to take the 3.5 mile hike to the top. The roadside boulders have about 10 stellar problems on them ranging from V0-V8. Nearly one of each grade, all in a line. McAfee's will not let you down. Just prepare yourself to loose a bit of skin. |

| Directions: | Take the Salem exit onto 311 North from I81. Take 311 N for about 9 miles and park on top of the mountain, on the left, in a large dirt parking lot. This is where the Appalachain Trail crosses 311. Hike to McAfee's on the fire trail until it reattaches to the app trail for an easier hike and some bouldering on the way. Take the trail for a more aerobic hike. There is camping on the main trail on the way up there. Camping at the very top is prohibited. Otherwise camping is allowed anywhere on the Appalacian Trail. |
