Hawk's Nest

About Hawk's Nest:
New River Gorge (The New) is mostly known for its climbing because of great sport routes and excellent exposure. The New hasn't had much bouldering development until Hawk's Nest was developed by locals recently. The area offers stellar bouldering problems ranging from V0-V8. The best time to climb here is in the fall or early spring but it does offer a nice summer getaway being so close to fresh water you can jump in whenever you get too hot. THE DAM: Hawk's Nest bouldering area is located next to a dam. Obviously they will release water periodically throught the day. If you hear a siren sound (and beleive me you can hear it!) you must proceed to the main trail. You have 5 minutes before water is released. The water hardly ever reaches upto the bouldering area. CAMPING: Camping can be found at Roger's near Kaymoor for five bucks a night (good for drinking etc), or for free at Cotton Hill (just down the road about 300 yards). ROUTE INFO: Since we cannot name every boulder in this section the individual route names will be listed in alphabetical order. climbing@waterstoneoutdoors.com |
