About Cotopaxi:

Cotopaxi is the beautiful volcano southeast of Quito. It is visible from the city on a clear day, and is the most popular mountain in Ecuador. Cotopaxi is heavily glaciated, and has some of the largest crevasses I have ever seen. Its elevation is just under 6000 meters, making it the second highest peak in Ecuador.

The normal route is relatively easy, but you need to know what you are doing on glaciers because of the many crevasses. This is a great peak for people who have done some mountaineering and are looking to go higher.
Nearest town or city: Latacunga
Directions: From Quito's Terminal Terrestre, catch a bus to Latacunga. Get out at the second entrance to Cotopaxi National Park, and flag a truck down from the main highway. Most drivers will take you to the refugio for a reasonable fee, and be prepared for the entrance fee to get in the National Park. From the end of the road, it is about a mile on an well worn trail to the Ribas Hut, which is a good place to stay.
