Jake spots Isaac (myself) @ a sweet split boulder located across the road from the main Devil's Den site @ Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Great place to boulder, however, Do not use chalk! We just brought our shoes and that's it!!! Park Rangers won't usually bother you if you don't use chalk, ropes, or crashpads. Just spot each other from the ground and you should be fine. All in all, just be respectful to the place where people fought and died in one of the bloodiest battles in our nations history (i.e. don't be obnoxious and don't get in peoples' way who are just there for a nice family outing; tourists still have priority!)!

The only boulder at Blue Mounds with a problem harder than V3. Start at the lower left edge of the overhanging face and move up and right to the apex where a burly undercling will get you up and over to some slick slopey holds. A fall from the top would put you in the hospital.

This is how I was able to pull through the 'crux' of brown power. Instead of trying to slap one of the two 'pockets' pinch between them, makes the problem very much easier.

My 13 yo climbing for the first time outside of a gym. This is on a 15-18 ft high 100 foot long sandstone overhang. Located 1.5 mile up Dalton Canyon look up and to the right (north) if you get to the logging road you just missed it.(approx 6 miles north of Pecos) Boulder all day or work short climbs. There is a nice tree and rock to support top roping. Short but long overhang, a lot of bouldering. So far it has one short climb "afternoon delight" 5.11C ish, just top rope from tree the route is below the corner by the tree. I made this little climb it but that was 14 years ago and couldn't get it last time I was there. I think it has many great routes that need tapped. Cons/Dangers are; the rock is not very clean and if you climb out/up to the 10 ft mark the fall is down a nice rocky slope. Pros: (We my kid and i) am the only ones who has climbed it (that I am aware of), so open game! It is south facing, so on a sunny day it is workable it late fall and early spring, hell winter if you can get up the road and love the cold.
I have moved back to NM and I am ready to climb again. I am hoping my daughter catches the bug, someday she will have to belay me. Looking for climbers in NM to help bolt and come up with routes. I know of a few other untapped cliffs in the area. Oh and see video "under first time out of the gym"

Stegasaur (V8)
Oil on Canvas Panel
6x12"
To buy this painting and read more visit my blog: www.shelleyhocknell.blogspot.com, or visit my website for more climbing art: www.shelleyhocknell.com
This is my husband Taylor climbing a boulder problem called Stegasaur in Hueco Tanks State Park, Texas. It is an amazing, thought provoking problem, which involves climbing wave type rock features under the roof of a cave. None of the holds are positive, and Taylor performed some incredibly gymnastic moves to emerge from the murky depths. I spied this quite revolting vantage point from the outside of the cave, and despite the copious rat and bat scat, crawled in to capture this image. I'm glad I did now, because I think it's one of the most successful climbing images I took out of our whole road trip - and that's saying something - I've got thousands of digital photographs, drawings and paintings from the 18 months or so we were traveling for.
This is a study, as most of these daily paintings are, and I'll post the final painting when it's done...it's going to be HUGE!!

We found this cool V2ish arete towards the South end of Stenson Beach in Marin County, Ca. The tide was coming up fast which made for a short climbing session but cool shots.
The climber is about 10ft of the deck with several moves to go. He had to lower himself down from the slab where you see the chalk to keep his shoes dry!
For those wondering, this pic was taken with a Canon SD100 lofted by a 23ft pole. This technique offers some cool perspectives.

This is one of the first boulders you come to, I'm not entirely sure if I've got the name of the route right. This was also his second time climbing on real rocks, so he's doing pretty good climbing this one. I'd also like to point out our ghetto crash pad, it's an air mattress with 2 comforters, one on top, and one underneath. It worked pretty well.

This is the finished product. I changed the small roof into a 25 deg wall. I also took down all of the holds and just put up problems, color coded. So far I have 35 problems ranging from 1-5. (using The Spot Gyms system) I also took off the campus board, cuz it was just homemade and kept tearing the piss out of my fingers.
Cheers
