Being somewhat American centric, the general US climbing community is largely unaware of the world wide acceptance of the sport of competition climbing. The international organization which governs indoor climbing rules and competitions is the International Federation of Sport Climbers. There are currently 48 countries who are members of the IFSC. The IFSC recently amicably split from the UIAA (Union Internationale des Association d’Alpinisme). One of the main objectives of the IFSC is to get climbing into the Olympics. The IFSC hosts a significant number of international competitions which can be found on their web site www.ifsc-climbing.org .
