Cheers, Sam Up hwy 4 about 30 miles from Arnold is Bear Valley. Good bouldering in the area, some ok cragging, though nothing like Yosemite. Start here: http://www.kgt.net/rockclimb/bear_valley/ There is no guidebook for the area so online resources or hooking up with a local are your only choices. For bouldering, Tamarack and Devils Kitchen are roadside. Don't expect Buttermilk, though! Still and all, good boulders on great granite. For cragging, the Box Canyon slab is good for half pitch easy to moderate - but is subject to guiding parties from the company that kindly provided this URL. Other times you won't see a soul there (most of the time). Its right at the eastern edge of Bear Valley, easy enough to find, a 5 minute walk from the car. There's other stuff up there on the Pass but I am not at liberty to divulge. DMT ps. BTW, Arnold may appear to be close to Yosemite, but it is not, by way of driving. You have to back to Angels Camp (20 min), south to Sonora (20 minutes) then onto YPN (an hour).
