I've met a pretty large number of rc.commers at both the SLC meeting and Flagstaff meeting and I have to say 99.9% of them were some of the best people I've ever met, I still keep in touch with quite a few and we try to meet up anytime we can..... woodsE

Take a gander at the thread in Trip Reports about the recent JTree gathering. So far I haven't met a bad RC.commer while climbing. On the site we can get a bit testy, but it's different outside.

From my experince you have to watch out for i.karen and rrradam. They are both pushers or fine coffee and Bop It. So far I have not met anyone on the site that was bad. I have a semi regular partner that I met on here. To bad hes a bit touched and like to ice climb.

Some of the best experiences of my life have been with rc.commers. SLC gathering, AZ gathering, and Smith Rock Gathering were nothing short of fantastic. My road trips have all included climbing with RC'rs. My bigger adventures have been with RC'rs. I have friends all over the country from RC. I haven't met an RC'r I havent liked. (sounds like a commercial, dont it?!?)

LIke everything, there's folks I'll get along with and those I don't. I've usually climbed with people who've sparked my interest (or not . . . like Addroids, and how we play phone tag for the heck of it, but don't actually climb), or have really put an effort out to hang out with me, or both. I've climbed with a lot of people from this site, some because of the site, some just randomly joined, too . . . and some I mesh with, some I don't . . . lah ti dah.

Hi Epic, My advice is...... go ahead and get roped in. Everyone I've met from this site are GREAT people. rockclimbing.com is about lifting each other up..... not flaming or knocking the next person down, unlike other sites. Stick around, and welcome aboard. Cheers, Ammon

I had an incredible time climbing with rrradam and the other So-Cal people last summer. Everyone that I've met from the site has been completely cool. Thanks to everyone that I met from the site for one last good summer before I moved out here to Chicago were, at least for now, it is WAY to cold to get out on the rock.

I think that quote of mine way predates even me, and that's saying a lot! Does it perhaps originate with "Base-ah-ball..." RC.com is ETS! You can click here to read my thank you note to everyone who helped me in Yosemite in May, and if that weren't enough, you can read my thank you note for September! "Greater love hath none than this, that he pick up a pig for his friend."

passthepitonspete I can tell you definitively, your quote is a SNL Weekend Update sketch from about 1978. Original cast member Garret Morris as a Dominican baseball player. "Base-a-ball been a bery bery good to me." Gawd I need to get out doors. MIke

So far positive experiences, and I have been on here since 2001. People always offer good beta for the most part. Climberchic,Burren, ebelay, etc. have welcomed me to climb with them in AZ in a couple weeks. I thought that was pretty nice of them.

I think it's about 97% positive... I've now met and/or climbed with over 170 users of this site, many of whom are now some of my closest friends. I can only think of 4 that I have a serious problem with, and it would appear that users who have met these same people have the same problems with them. NO NAMES !!!

I've met a number of people on here and climbed with them (Climbinganne, Tradpuppy, Pinnaclechick, Deafclimber, FurryFrisbee, Mike, CCraig, XL360, and I'm sure I'm leaving out some)and it has all been great experiences. Met most of them at the SE Gathering and have climbed with several of them since then as well.

I slapped it on my truck immediately as I thought to myself, "I guess that makes me a member huh!" I wish I hadn't spaced the J-Tree gathering. I'll be at the next gathering fer sure! CHEERS Gabe

O.K., here's the scene. I'm like Alpinclymber1, I like climbing with females. So, anyway, a couple of females PM me from this site, wanting to climb. I'm like cool, let's get to it. Turns out, these woman aren't really into climbing, they're 30 somethings, kinda overweight and outta shape, and on the husband hunt. I just wanna climb, so........... That's why I posted a profile picture, so now it's clear that I'm not husband material, at least in the traditional sence. Any ladies that actually want to move over lots of stone, PM me.

I've met some really cool folks on this site, and a few wackos. I'll admit, when I first joined this site, I considered the fact that surfers on an internet site would likely have a higher chance of being social miscreants, wackos, and/or child molesters, but this has not been the case. Just use your judgement when picking partners, and this site can be a very valuable tool. Hell, atg200 is dragging my sorry ass up Moonlight Buttress in two months. woohoo!!!!

Nothing but good times with people from the site. The gatherings are especially fun. You would expect a meeting of Type "A" personalities to have some problems, but it always goes smoothly. Now, if I can just get Prana back in that sweater.....

Maybe we should have a RC.com "Survivor" gathering. We'll all meet somewhere where there is absolutely no climbing for a month. Then we'll hear about positive and negative reactions.

I found out about this site from nice folks that I'd met "in real life" (NateC and smithclimber). Thanks, guys!

i've climbed with more people on this site than would probably acknowledge me, and i've only had two mildly unfavorable experiences. however, i've met pratically my entire climbing circle through the site and have gained countless friends. even met my climbing partner at SLC gig, even though he didnt acknowledge me in his post (grr), amber [ This Message was edited by: clymbr_chk on 2003-01-26 14:25 ]

yeah, i hooked up with some rc.com'ers and they killed me and stole my gear. bastards! okay... the time or two i've climbed with rc.com'ers, i've had a great time. this goes the same with bouldering.com'ers, offthedeck.com'ers, rec.climber's, cascadeclimbers.com'ers, and boldering.com'ers. climbers are generally good folks, independent of what internet forums they frequent.

I have had mostly great experiences. I've met a group of people who I climb with most every week through this site (YOU GUYS ROCK!)....all awesome people and fun to climb with. I'm really thankful to have met climbing buddies who I can now call good friends. Thanks to the site for the hookup!

My experiences w/ rc.com'ers ... Met jhnewengland at Qunicy Quarries one day for some TR fun. Went to Rumney with boneware and had some sport fun. Went to the Gunks with both of them for some trad fun. Then I went to jhnewengland's pad during the Rumney gathering, met a bunch of Candians, and met greenmantle and blueleaper. Then I met green, blue, jumaringjeff and tcollins at the Quarries one day for some TR and bouldering. Then I went to Rose Ledge and Wendel Road Crag with greenmantle. A while later I went to the gym with blueleaper, jumaringjeff didn't show. Then I drove to TWall with climbinganne to meet hoppinbig and others. We went to Fosters - me, hoppin, anne and three Mainers - while tradpuppy waited for mike at TWall. Then we all chilled and I met Brandon (rc.com name?), tommyf and his girl Misty (rc.com?). Tommy and Misty made hoppinbig and I some fricken awesome kabobs at TWall. We all drank Yeungling and it was a good thing. Then I drove back up with climbinganne. We made good time. Back up in Boston, tcollins and blueleaper came over to help me build my home woody. Tcollins just left my place after a session on said woody. It's all good. rc.com is a good place to chat and meet other climber types. I agree with those who say that "online is online and real life is real life." But so far, everyone I've met has acted and climbed with the same attitude and ethics they show online. And it's been all good. jeremy

RC.com has introduced me to lots of awesome people and awesome rock! It's also made me an honorary local at New Jack City This site has a lot of genuine people. Two that I had never even met before showed up to Andria's funeral last month (I don't believe they had met her either). They introduced themselves, hugged me, talked climbing. Yup, there are some kind folk here I am lucky to have only interacted with good people.

All my experiences have been great. Except one. That dang tracyroach is always up in my face trying to start something No, but seriously folks, I met atg200 and we did an extremely painful hike together and ate canned meats. No climbing happened but that will soon change. All the people I met at the Flagstaff gathering were great. And I hope to meet even more of you at the Moab and Colorado Gatherings.

I've met howitzer and climbinganne. And I have to say, they are fun fun girls. howitzer even went so far as to take cerikpete and I out on real rock for the first time and start teaching us about anchors. So definitely positive experiences. I met cerikpete long before being a rc.com member, and I'm a big fan of him too (we're dating).

I’ve got to admit that solely based on reading the Forums I wasn’t too interested in meeting or climbing with the people on this site other than the small circle of friends I already knew prior to joining. What I’ve discovered recently is that the members that actually do get out and climb, at least some of the J-Tree rats, are pretty cool. They’ve all been really accepting of just about anyone, not based on how hard you climb or can spew although they all climb pretty damned hard, but simply on the kind of person you are in general. So yeah, person to person, just about everyone I have met in the group has been a positive experience. One more thing... i.thought that i.originally said “i.heard i.karen†and Jackie Twan changed it to “i.hate i.Karen.†Alas, i.was corrected and told that i.started the “i.hate†theme. i.am very sorry and obviously couldn’t go through with it since i.Karen is just too nice to flame. i.will however point out the fact that everyone she turned to that night to defend her laughed when they heard about the plan including i.karens i.husband! -Dave

I'm fairly new to the site, so I haven't met anyone yet. I might give it a try sometime, though. However, I wonder how valid this thread is. I mean, if someone had bad experiences w/RC.commers, then they would probably stop visiting RC.com, and therefore not be here to comment. All those that had great experiences would be more likely to keep coming back, and therefore results might be skewed. Just a thought.

Phugga, Not true, not true. I haven't gotten along with some of the users here that I met in real life. I just don't climb with them. Just like everything, you can usually see what people are gonna be like via their communication on this site, so you can tell if you want to risk it. And Karen and Adam, I need to go out with you guys again, you guys rock. I don't know if I told you that. You hunting around for me in Tuolumne made me feel all warm and fuzzy. I'm kind of regretting not going to the JTree gathering, but I find I don't like hanging out in LARRRRGE climbing groups. Next time, yo. And I'll actually be in decent climbing shape when this happens. Would rather have one or two to wax about the forces of gravity with (flagstaff).

i have met a bunch of people now and as of now there is only one not so good experience otherwise everyone has been great. Met 4 more RC.com people this weekend at J-tree and am looking forward to meeting lots more. Most climbers i meet are usually great, except for the occasional ego rocker, who wants nothing to do with you unless you climb .12's , these people inevitably never wear a $#!& and never actually climb or at least are never actually seen climbing. I am very happy that i just one day randomly typed in rockclimbing.com and found the site. On that note anyone looking to climb in J-Tree this week?? Philip

clymbr_chk- I was wondering the same thing. I did notice atg eyeing my rack in the most peculiar way late one evening during a wonderful headlamp-lit dinner of Wolfgang Puck soup. Maybe when he offered to massage my aching quadriceps it was more than just a friendly gesture? Oops, there I go breaking the golden rule. What happens in the bivy stays in the bivy.

I've met a few folks fromt his site and had a good time with them all! BUT I have a question! After meeting me one of these folks later said in a post..."we met flamer who turned out to be really nice"(or something like that. So my question is am I a real d*ck online? I know I have strong ethic's but do you guy's think I'm a jerk? josh I wonder why I care....???? [ This Message was edited by: flamer on 2003-02-04 09:31 ]
