For a good laugh, check out the maze of handicap ramps they installed near the lock..there had to be a better way to do that..

I thought that was hilarious too. It might have been easier to just install a freaking elevator.

I had the entire weekend offf...and it rains. grrrrr......

Well. I am bored. So, I am posting some pictures I took uptop the Nears a month ago when I was there on a rainy day. One day of rain is okay; the cliff dries, the sun comes out, and you can climb the next. And.....I hate to say this, but I will be so irritated if that happens tomorrow(Sorry, locals!).

I'm coming to the Gunks this weekend. More than likely, I'll be heading into the Gunks (Trapps) and maybe Rumney. I am aware that the weather right now is a bit wet. Do you know how the weather will be this weekend?

If it does rain, what are good dry routes? Please help.

I don't care if the is forecast for rain....I'm heading upstate this afternoon. I'm looking at that van as my country home, I think.... Gonna stop at Campmor on the way, and get a tarp, just in case I need to create a little bit of an umbrella.

I'll be camped at the MUA on the north side till Monday. If you see Junior parked(grey van), stop by and have a cup of cocoa.

Way to keep the faith, sister. Remember last weekend (and the other hundred or so over the last couple years where the prediction was wrong) !

As for me, I'm staying home, it's gonna rain  .

^Ohhhh. That sucks.....

Well, maybe you'll feel better later and head out anyway.

For all those who are thinking on heading out this weekend - here are some Gunks "Fall Foliage" shots from last weekend. Juuuuust about peak. This weekend ought to be sssssplendid......

And don't forget - Turn your clock back at 2am on Sunday morning(that's the right info, right?) for the end of Daylight Savings. It sucks SO much to forget and get ripped off of that extra hour of sleep!

This past weekend was another gorgeous one at the Gunks!!! Completely uncharacteristic of early November weather in New York.

I got lucky and got to make it down for the weekend. In terms of climbing one of the highlights of my trip was finally leading my nemesis climb. Now I can transition into winter and let this rock season go without the thought of "if only I had done that one climb....." :D

Happie....Jason & I saw the van there this weekend. Hope you had a good time and enjoyed the awesome weather!

Anyone hear of any break ins at the MUA recently? I camped there this past weekend and saw lots of broken glass on the right side of the road when your heading toward 44/55. Yet another reason to sleep with your gear. lol.

Someone "rolled in" to the MUA on Friday night about 11pm....Rolled right up and into the rear of poor Junior, scaring the bejesus out of me. Then...they simply turned off the car and got out, still lip-locked with my little van's hiney! I had to ask them to back (the F) up, if they didn't mind, so I could open the hatch in the moring to get stuff out.....

Anyway - Betty - Yes, I had a great weekend - what weather! Saturday I got to follow on a few climbs that were challenging but within my onsight following ability. Got to spot my leader as he started up Sente (and made it with no mishap), and then to try to climb it (gave up after a few trys and got a power assist until I was past that first smear).

Sunday, I was partnerless, but made the best of the day by walking the cliffline and familiarizing myself. I did some traversing sections, and took time to watch some parties go up some harder(at least to me...) routes.

Non-climbing related - Had dinner on Sat. nite at the seafood place - Gel...(?) - Delicious, but spendy. And on Sunday, at the LemonGrass Thai place - wonderful, at a more reasonable price range.

I am thinking on heading up this Friday night, and will be seeking partners for Sat/Sunday...... Weather looks awesome.

Happie,

Chris here (guy who walked up and said hi Sunday morning). That's a drag about your van and not finding a partner Sunday. I hope everything worked out okay with your friend who had the troubles the other night...

Nice meeting you in person. I'll be out with some newcomers tomorrow (Friday) if our schedules work out. I'll look for your van to say hi if you're around.

Hey Chris - Don't worry about Junior(the van). He wasn't hurt. It's just that...well, being a New Yorker, he thinks it's rude for someone to bump him and not apologize!

As for being solo on Sunday, it's also not a problem, because I got to take the time to scout the cliff base. When I am with partners, I never have the chance to make note of the various routes and their locations. Plus, I did do some hard traversing, so I got my exercise that day.

I'm up both days this weekend, and so maybe I'll see you around.

Oh.....
You should definitely watch the website climbrockclub.com.
The New Gym in New Rochelle is going to be so awesome. It won't be open until spring but Worth The Wait. Great climbing-- good holds, interesting walls, lots of bouldering if thats your passion, good management..even a sauna and beer bar! (It shares those facilities with a tennis club.) The kids are off in a private room (not just a private area) tactfully called the "Training room"-which can also be used for belay tests, warming up etc. You can see into the main gym thru a giant plate glass window, and parents can watch from a mezzanine above-thus getting them off the floor while they watch and encourage their little darlings as they hang from the ropes flailing. Check it out!

That last post was a bit of a non sequitor. Sorry about that. It was in response to Irenes Sept post quoted below.

[Just curious if anyone around here was at the opening of the new gym in Valhalla this past Saturday (www.thecliffsclimbing.com)...and if anyone is willing to share thoughts.

I didn't mean that it is "winter" here in the N/East....I menat that this thread moves as "slowly as a turtle in winter!" And thus, it's not hard to figure out when a post refers to a different one.

The weather HAS been kind to us, I think! I guess to make up for all that rain......But, as the Icicles(ice climbers) said - that rain was like mannah from heaven.

As for me - I am heading off to California to morrow morning. The weather says it should be in the 50's to 60's during the day. Lucky Meeeeeee!

Oh - if anyone is going out there, I'll be at JTree till 12/11, probably. Might head back to Red Rocks for the last few days, but I didn't try to hook up any partners.....lazy me. Anyway - if you're out there, or know someone who is, and looking for climbing partners, send me a PM.

Hey to all Jewish Rock Climers of the East Coast, Though I have only climed a little I have a huge respect for Climbing and Climers.
My name is Theo Kisch, I am an Artist, single, Jewish, and I live in Manhattan. I admit it I do things differently, I take the “road less traveled” as Robert Frost said so beautifully. I have truly made Unusual choices in my life, and I am proud of them, but I do not fit easily into some simple mold. And for a long time I felt very much alone, I thought there must be other Jews like me, but, I did not know where to find them, so I moved to New York, and I still did not know where to find, my, Tribe. Now others, and myself, are gathering, and forming a community. A community of Creative Jewish singles, living in or around Manhattan. We are looking for Jewish singles of the East Coast, like you, that take chances and call it Adventure, consider themselves Open Minded, and are proud of it. But, the single most important thing after you being Jewish, single, and living in and around New York City, is that you do not fit easily, into some simple mold. If this sounds like you, then you are home, and I invite you to E-mail me, at jimyyyy@aol.com; and then, you will not be alone.

Peace, and Love,

Theo, jimyyyy@aol.com

??? He was very friendly actually! I really hardly know the guy, and as far as I know, he never did anything bad to me. I'm not sure he was such a sweetheart to you, but that's not my business, especially since I know you don't think I was that good to you either, so I don't draw any conclusions.

Besides, it was too cold for that! :P
