OK, so I've only been to one climbing fest (ClimbFest at Foster's Falls), but I showed up with out a partner, and it was totally cool. I met some nice peeps from Nashville that let me climb with them. My partners down here in ATL are flakes, and i cant rely on them to commit. It will just be me and my girlfriend. Will it be a problem to find people to belay and climb with? Is the environment laid back?
thx

Dude, its suuuuper chill....hit me up, I'll likely be climbing unless I'm teaching a photo clinic (likely at the boulders sat), then I'll be bouldering and taking pictures Smile

Truello-- Awesome man. Didn't know you were one of that crew. I'll definitely be there as long as you guys let me know ahead of time. It's probably my favorite "home" crag.

When are you heading to the New? I'll be there for the whole week prior to the Rendezvous so if you're planning on being there for more than the festivities let me know. If you haven't been climbing there before I suggest extending your stay.

I haven't actually met Jae yet but he and I are both beta whores so we've been collaborating some of our knowledge for some sort of database of topos and coords, etc for PA.

I'd love to go down a little earlier (have only driven over the bridge, haven't actually climbed there) but it depends on schedules of people i'm going with. Would be sweet to extend the trip though.

truello-- yeah, the new is kinda like disney world, you can't really experience the whole place in a week, much less during the rendezvous. so hopefully you'll be able to grab some extra days.

i like where you're heading witht the pa database idea. i'm not really doing the same thing per say, but i am looking to develop and document a fairly unpopular area near my home. wish ypou guys were a little close cuz i'd love some help. but this doesnt fit into this thread so we'll leave that for another day

I haven't been to Fosters, though I live in TN and am pretty close, but I feel pretty confident in saying that the NRG Rendezvous will be MUCH larger than what you went to at Fosters. First of all, the NRG is a ga-zillion times larger just in terms of climbing, and this event alone draws upwards of 800 people into the gorge for a big ole partay. It'll be a totally different gig, I promise.

And on the topic, I am pretty sure that some of us ex-NRG folks (turned RRG and TN and out-west-road-trippin folks) will be there! Can't wait to see J_ung and the dancers! Oh... and Roger... oh how we miss you Roger! Wink

Hell, no. Hell, yes. Smile

Folks I want to give everybody a heads up. It looks as though there will be a larger police presence at this year's Rendezvous. Some things to keep in mind to stay out of trouble:

1. If you're drinking, please please please do not drive.
2. Carpool! Use designated drivers!
3. Or just bring what you need for the night and stay at the Rendezvous!
4. All dogs have to be leashed.
5. Parking is always scarce at the NRR, so again, carpool, arrive early, plan on staying the night or at least staying until you're done for the evening. Once you leave each night, it will be very difficult to find another parking space.
6. We ran out of beer at around 11PM last year. Hopefully, that won't happen again, but if you want to be prepared, be aware that glass containers are not allowed on Park property. PBR cans? No problemo. Tongue
7. Lastly, remember that what you do reflects on all of us. Let's not give them a reason to think even more police are necessary!

Alrighty people... gotta keep this thread goin, so we can get some more publicity.

So as to not waste a post, I must say this: I am planning on attending a clinic this time around since I had to leave early last year. The Rendezvous website says there is a possibility of having a "Building Better Trad Anchors" clinic and "Big Wall Basics" clinic, and one of those would be my first choice, so does anyone know how much of a possibility there is of whether or not these will ever come to fruition? Additionally, the other option that already is set to occur is the "Crack Climbing Technique" clinic. Anyone know anything about this one because I like crack climbing and wouldn't mind making that one of my stronger skill sets. Thanks folks, see y'all soon.

Peace.
Colby.

That would be cool.....better TARD anchors... :)

I'm actually doing a Photography clinic Sat during the bouldering comp. Its not on the schedule yet, but I'll be talking about Degree of Focus, Composition, Aperture, Angle etc etc...anyone interested? Its geared toward beginner's to intermediate.

We'll be using the Bouldering Comp peeps as our un-godly test subjects.

AAhhhh Come on Danno! Don't tell me you're one of those sport weeny trad haters. LOL. Unfortunately my camera is junk and I won't be upgrading before the event, otherwise I would sign up for your photog clinic. I would prolly be better photographer than I am a climber anyway. Maybe someday.

That sounds like as close to bouldering as I will get... Tongue.... Both Newbierockstar and myself are interested in the photography clinic. Do we need to provide our own cameras?

I'm thinking about doing a clinic this year as well... not sure which one yet. Also considering competing just for shits & giggles. So few people compete that maybe I have a chance of not getting last place!
I did unintentionally lead a route much harder than I thought it was going to be yesterday... ( I need to learn how to read a guidebook ) ... moving on up! Smile
