Yes, I have been climbing in MA since I started. I was active on this site the year before last. Because I have family and other things, I don't participate in the discussions as much as I would like to. All of my climbing has been in New England and New York.

Jason --- That is really awful news. Best wishes for a very speedy and complete recovery. If your recovery proceeds as rapidly as your climbing has over the last year and an half you will be back in no time. Told Ed on the drive back from the Gunks last night I was planning on calling you today about climbing Friday - Sunday at the Gunks. Looks like we will have to put it on hold until your back. --- Bill

Hey I'm new to the metrowest area and looking to start climbing. I have no experiance what-so-ever and looking for another begining partner and figured this was as good a place to start as any. If anyone is interested send me a e-mail.

However compared to the high number of serious climbing accidents that seem to have occurred lately or to those overcoming more severe injuries/rehab (Robbo, GB, etc)...I'll chalk my little set-back up as a victory! Besides it's a great time to get some cardio in and be in real fighting shape come fall - just in time to cruise some easy classics! Besides I'll save a ton of money by not succumbing to my excessive chalk habit as I seem to hit rock-bottom during peak summer months. Any Gunks routes experience the wrath of Losbill this weekend? Directissima or Modern Times perhaps??? I got back yesterday from a trip to Arizona. Thanks to my buddy Andy, who rope-gunned a fixed line for me I was able to get vertical! I rigged a 1-arm 3:1 ascending system and was able to "climb" some classic routes out in Queen Creek Canyon, specifically "The Totem Pole". It was great to get off the deck again. See you out there, J

Sebastion - I'd check out Central Rock Gym (as it appears you are from Worcester) and get some basic safety skills under your belt (understanding of basic equipment, communication, climbing & belaying basics). Once you have a solid understanding of the basics and decide you really like climbing, pick-up some gear (Shoes, Harness, Belay Device, etc...). Then keep an eye out for local climbing programs in the area that are geared towards beginners, specifically AMC groups from Boston, WMass and NH. http://trips.outdoors.org/...llview/tripid/25306/ Register fast, as intro courses tend to fill up quickly! If all else fails, I'd be happy to meet up with you for a morning to go over basics to help get you through the beginner stage as many mass climbers have done for me (BN,EP,GK, EK, etc...). Jason

Neither Directissima nor MT went down. Just cruised on M & T giving the money pitches to Alex, first real time there, as we worked up the grades doing all classics. The highlight for me was P1 of Erect Direction and then following Alex on CCK Direct. What a great link up! On F & S I was climbing with two guys coming back from surgeries so it was dailed back a bit. Was aiming for Directissima or Ant's Line as one of my ticks on S but got closed out due to crowds. Did do P2 of Alpine Diversion which I had not led previously. Not a bad climb. Fun going over the roof. Need to work on doing it without the knee on the heel hook. Got a good look at Insulhation and Obstacle Delusion both look good so the tick list has expanded. Re: MT, I guess it will have to wait until the fall. I'm not going up it without you! Bill

Hello, I am looking for people to climb with in the north shore area. I've done some top roping at metro rock and would like to start climbing outdoors. I have everything I need to top rope except for someone to climb with. I am also interested in bouldering and learning how to lead climb/belay. Hope to hear some good news!

coffehead and Abullis. There is an AMC group in Central Ma that climbs together too and welcomes newcomers. I recommend climbing with people who know rather than a new beginner. It just makes sense to have experienced eyes. Most outdoor climbers are willing to take you under their wing if you are humble and willing to learn. If you are interested in climbing with me individually, or AMC Worcester, email me an we will hook up. I climb mainly at CrowHill in Leominster State Forest which is close to home. I also go to College Rock and Farley, and will travel for fund trips.

There is a Google Group at: http://groups.google.com/group/climbworcester that welcomes people who are interested in climbing with other climbers in or from Central Massachusetts area. Brian

After work climbing at Crow Hill is back for the next 6 to 8 weeks. This week it is Tuesday. I will be at the PL around 3 PM. Traditionally climbing goes on until dark or beyond so even if you get there well past 5 you can still get a burn on. Bring the headlamp. Bugs were pretty annoying on Friday so bug dope is in order. PM me to get on the email list that is sent out every Sunday. You noobs who have posted recently are invited. Ask for me when you get there. Bill PS Brian I will even climb with you, although I will pay out generous penalty slack if the opportunity arises due to your "different" slant on the Farley "issue".

Maybe you should be up front with that and not try to come off as a passing climber who stumbled upon a value. Most climbers are not looking to pony up $150 for a night's stay. Especially not when they are scammed into it. Although if it were a bed, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and ride to the crag I might go for $150. But just a plain old Bed and Breakfast?

Actually, now that I think about it, the best thing would be to take them up on their offer. We will just follow standard practice and cram 6 people into one of their rooms. Sort some muddy gear on the floor, wash a tent in the bathroom, and show up to breakfast with a hangover and bloody fingers.
