I think I may be heading into a shaky area at work. I've been told by a little ant that I am going to get a job offer that I shouldn't refuse. With that will invariably be an increase in pay as well as title.

Now, I've also been privy to a feeler about a possible prospect in a place I really want to go. I am going to apply for that as well, hoping that the timing of the bit works out well on my end. That would mean a swap from business unit to business unit in an incredibly short amount of time. The only thing is that I need to get me a certification that I know will be easy-cheasy for me to obtain and hope that I'm the most qualified applicant for the jorb.

My set up above is to ask a question: How soon after accepting a transfer to another jorb is too soon to transfer to an even better jorb? Essentially, this next move would be a most opportune stepping stone to the next.
If both jobs are within the same organization, you are going to look bad doing this. But if the two areas or departments don't really co-exist then who gives a crap. You are out for number one, right? Just make sure the bridges you burn won't screw up your long term plan.

Considering that my company employs around 500,000 people it is an interesting problem. The jorb that I suspect to get an offer on is 40 feet from my current desk, but also is a part of a different business unit. The one I am privy to is in yet another business unit and is across the country from me. Heck, it isn't even in the same industry as the one I'm in and the one I'm going for.

Being with a large company allows for a level of diversification that wouldn't be found with a smaller company. I can work in one business unit, yet have the opportunity to work in 7 or 8 different industries. It's up to what I want to make of it.

Growing up sucks.

This is the root of the issue.

What do you mean run out? The last slab route I was on I averaged 6 good pieces every 60m.... mind you that's an average over 3 pitches and the last pitch had a grand total of 3 pieces in a rope length Unimpressed
Was that including the anchor pieces?

[fatbastard voice]Maybeh[/fatbastard voice]

Ooooh, where's this at?
THE GREAT CANADIAN CHOSSIES. P3 = Anchor, Universal ring piton, Anchor (tree)

New route we put up a couple weekends ago. I'm thinking I may go back and put in 1 protection bolt on that pitch.... 'cause if you did slip (due to rain or poor technique) it would be a huge cheeze grater penji slide off, an overlap, more cheeze grater, another overlap might me a tree or two in there, then right into a corner. But no ledge!

When it comes to slab, I am the suck.

Conway has the bestest slab climbing on the east coast.

Whitehorse is pretty fun, I'll admit.
I haven't done much over there, though.

You used universal ring pin. That should cover all your bases on that pitch.

On second thought. A universal ring pin sounds like a part off of your truck. If it is a truck part I can only imagine what your belays look like. Maybe you better ad a few bolts.

I'm going to see if I have time for climbing, but at this point it's more about getting Laurie out of town and away from the family stress so she can relax for a while and forget about life's problems. As she doesn't climb we're going wheeling instead. Climbing was in the original plan, but our friends who were going to be coming along are only able to make it for one night (new job, bottom of the totem pole thing), and I' without a partner and more importantly someone to keep Laurie company while I climb.

So right now it looks like I'll be working Sat afternoon and Sun day almost for sure. They might try to pin me to work Friday, but I plan to avoid it. Monday looks black.

So I'd like to climb with Nathan on Friday and Kelly on Monday if you please. Laugh

Sounds like a plan. As long as I am here. Ali and I talked about going somewhere but no definate plans as of yet. I was sort of hoping that you would have had two days off in a row and you could have joined us somewhere. I will keep you posted.
Where could you guys possibly go for two days?
Metcalf. but its on the same escarpment as here so Im voting to just stay here.

We are different then; I usually try to do everything static, depending on the move, i.e. I hate to dyno. Momentum is different.

I just have never liked the inherent insecurity that seems to come with slab climbing, but I'm betting if I did more of it, I wouldn't feel that way. I'd just rather get on a crack, I guess.
