Quote from page 2, and what Roughster wants us to see as the simple moral of the story (right?):

In reply to:
I don't know if I agree with assessment, but answer this:

Had the dogs been leashed, do you think that anyone would have been killed?

I would guess no.

It's been a long thread, but I think one obvious question has been missed.

How do we know that the dogs weren't leashed?

Oh yes! The man who said he was attacked by three dogs, but doesn't have a single scratch to show for it, says that they weren't...

I climb with people who bring their dogs to the crag and for the most part the dogs are well behaved and obedient. I still think it is a bad idea to take your dog to the crag and if you do you take your dog to the crag for god sake keep it leashed. Even a freindly dog can be annoying, especially if you are eating.

Sometimes people tie their dogs too close to the trail and they will snap at you when you walk by. I have been bitten by dogs at the crag and I settle the issue by promptly kicking the dog in the head. Often the dogs owners will become upset. they say things like, "The dog is just protecting me," or "The dog is scared of you, it doesn't know any better." I tell the stupid dog owners, "I'm just reacting to your dog".

Don't get me wrong, I love dogs I grew up with dogs, but I don't take my dogs to the crag out of consideration of other people. If you want to solve the problem, then leave your dog at home.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here as I totally think this is wrong in so many ways but hell we have to look at both sides here.

Given that the old man with gun was rash in his actions, the principle of why he didnt shoot the dogs makes sense to me. Dogs are the way they are in many parts due to their owners. I've run across enough "gaurd dogs" to know that the dogs don't deserve to be given a good beating - the owners do.

People who starve and abuse their dogs to the point of frenzy just so they attack whoever approaches their property should be punished to the fullest extent.

So if I were say walking through my neighbourhood and a neighbour's "gaurd dog" were to attack me, I'd hope to subdue the dog and $#IT kick the neighbour.

Now conversely putting three well placed bullets through the owners chest seems a little too 'controlled' to warrant a 'self defence' excuse and manslaugher is certainly a likely charge. Still I doubt we have enough info from this one article to be able to pass judgement.

damn gun toting red neck should fry for murder 1. three shots to the chest is making it obvious that he was trying to kill the man . And his story is bullshit anyways a warning shot would have scrared the biggest of dogs into pissing them selves.

Simple fact is hes a fucking murderer. sorry for the profanity but just readin this makes me want to find 5 vicious dog strip him naked a let them rip him to pieces.

From the looks of his few posts, my guess is he's merely an alter-ego of a site regular.

i love Canada; you never come across people carring semi-automatic guns while hiking.

Tim you have not been in the back woods much or what? I have seen drunks with guns "target shooting" plenty of times on back logging roads.

lets see a senior citizen with a gun. well senior citizens are easily startled and confused, one with a gun is bad news. 3 dogs from the pound not on leashes, also bad news i wouldn't trust a dog from a pound if you paid me too, especially if it wasn't leashed up. 3rd thing is they both just happened to cross paths. and look what happened. i would say i told ya so but even I couldn't of thought up that scenario.
