Velvet Underground really isn't punk, as they're more Avante Garde... But yea, Lou Reed is fantastic! There are so many great punk bands that changed the cultural tides forever. I would however have to place The Clash towards to top of the list, just above The Ramones.

I wouldn't consider the Dead Milkmen as full-on Punk, although they were a very fun band. I saw them they day they signed their first record deal, when they played a private backyard party at Purdue. In fact, there is actually a picture of me on their website. ;) Black Flag Dead Kennedy's Husker Du Sex Pistols etc. There are so many different elements to punk, that it's hard to categorize them. Blondie/Deborah Harry was considered punk by mainstream standards, as was Generation X/Billy Idol and Devo... Devo would clearly be the closest, but if they are being lumped in, then you would have to add the Talking Heads and probably even Oingo Boingo, just due to the similarities. Hell, Adam Ant was considered punk just by appearances alone. I grew up around Purdue, where there was a huge underground culture. Punk isn't so much a form of music, as it is a lifestyle, or even a movement... Thus I selected 'The Clash' as being towards to top of my list, as they were pretty outspoken leaders in regards to anarchy. Also, to even mention the Velvet Underground without giving due consideration to David Bowie is a sin in its own right. Then we have Bryan Eno, whose gone on to do some amazing solo stuff, yet we never hear about him. :?

Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, No Means No, The Clash, GBH, The Exploited, Bad Brains, DOA,The Melvins, and of course The Ramones, The New York Dolls and The Stooges. These are some of my favorites, but I have left a whole lot out.

London Calling by the Clash is my absolute favorite album. But can't forget about the Buzzcocks, and all those on the NY scene like the New York Dolls and Richard Hell and the Voidoids.

I often find myself singing this song by the Vandals to help me cope with the stupid crap that people do to eachother in this world: People That Are Going To Hell Lyrics Some people are bad and they don't give a damn what they do or who they hurt they go through their lives and don't apologize for the shit that they've disturbed but they don't bother me at all cuz i know quite well- when they're lives are over and they're done what they've done they're the people that are going to hell some beat their wives or pull out a knife and stab a person or 2 or 3 with no repercussions and no one here can touch them and they get away scott free but that's not the case you see and i'm glad to tell. when their lives are over and they've done what they've done they're the people that are goin to hell. they will spend eternity cursing all they've done faced with karma consequence and nowhere left to run they will be in agony until the end of time cuz they were such assholes while alive so try and be nice and to do what's right cuz there will come a day when you're faced with your maker and no one here can save you no matter what they say and be glad that you were good cuz some don't do so well and when their lives are over and they've done what they've done they're the people that are going to hell

In reply to: Tgreene.... you are a walking, typing punk encyclopedia! :Lil: As a teenager, I found my place within the subculture, even though my primary musical interests were and still are rooted in Disco. The thing about punk, is that there is a place for every social misfit , free thinker and artist... Being that I fell into all 3 categories, I truly conformed to the ultimate standards of non-conformists. I was also the first guy in the history of my high school to pierce my ears, because guys simply didn't do that shit back then!

In reply to: The song " Only A Lad" is on Skeletons In The Closet... I wasn't aware that was an album by that title... As far as I know, there are only the 3 that I listed. Dark At The End Of The Tunnel was a pretty eclectic release, as it's more along the lines of the Twin Peaks soundtrack. 8^) Oingo Boingo Albums: Skeletons In The Closet Nothing To Fear Elfman's So-Lo Dead Man's Party Boi-Ngo Only a Lad..they do a rather funky cover of 'You really got me' Good For Your Soul Boingo Alive 1 & 2 Dark at the End of the Tunnel.. I agree with you there. they got all maudlin on this one Farewell Jeez. now I feel like a borderline-gothy teenager again.

Wow... Although I have to wonder how repitious they are, since it appears may of the cover titles are featured songs in the 3 albums that I have.
