Calanques yesterday, La Candelle barely visible in the background. "It rains so rarely here, people are happy when it does".

btw, is August too hot to climb in Sardegna? Where do you generally fly to, and did you rent a car when there? How expensive (tisar, booger)?

Most folks fly in to Olbia on the east coast, which is closest to most of the sport climbing; there are also some much higher, more adventurous (and more trad) cliffs north of the Alghero airport on the west coast.

In August you're still in tourist season, so bus service from airport to climbing towns is more frequent, but would still probably have to hitch the last chunk to town near crag, and from there to crag. So I'd recommend a car; costs are fairly reasonable, weekly rate about 30-40 euro a day if I recall.

I've only climbed there later in the year (October) but was already getting a bit chill then; looks like August a bit hot though: http://www.italy-weekly-rentals.com/...fo/CLIMATE/olbia.gif

Ferris got it covered. I would tend to believe that climbing in August is close to impossible because of the heat. Late September to mid of October might be the best time to go - we were there late October to November last year and though the temps were perfect for climbing, I'd prefer a little more sun on my part.

I'm still waiting for my first real-rock experiences this year. Pentacost will come soon. And hopefully dry. Can hardly remember how it feels... Frown

maznev, there's something wrong with your pics - they won't show up...

Greetz,
Daniel

Trad to 5ish, sport to 6ish, though who knows, since haven't been climbing indoors or out in months.

Tisar, what kind of grade do you think this gets?

Can come visit Utah in the fall (no pun intended) if it's down your alley, so to speak.

I'm not too familiar with the jump grades, but I'm sure one could find something resembling a 'I' painted top the inside of the panties afterwards...

Well, jump grades are only 4, and 4th are really rare.
(something like in last James Bond Movie- that jump from the Crane on Building, nothin for mortals like meUnsure )
Maybe somewhere between 1 and 2 ( 1 likely)- good starting and landing zone to 2 meter long. But it is only guess. It could be Xth class if You fall in Cool

Last two weekends were really good, last one, we were on PADani bouldering comp in Petrohrad, no chance to win- Famous Adam Ondra show us how to turn off the gravity. Harry Potter is looser Wink
And this one- i was in Labske Udoli on sanstone, eh Sandstone, climbing for 3 days, beautifull routes, many some 80 mtrs long ( and they ARE long when you have long 80m rope) I was pretty destroyed in Sunday- barelly able to grab the change from the desk. And Yesterday i woke up with fingers turned like LEGO figure Wink It take 10min to force them doing something.

damn.. sorry. I didn't see your post. We were on the road near Avignon by then.... You would have been dissapointed. There was so much to see we didn't even try to go climbing. Awesome tourist trip though - by the time I got home it was over 3500km in 10 days!
