I live just outside Boston on the way to the gunks - in case you need a place to sleep. Btw why the gunks? The place has a lot of great climbing to be sure, but it's only 60m tall, overcrowded, and may be still too hot in the beginning of Sept. (+you have to pay money to climb there!). I'd think New Hampshire (Cannon/Cathedral/White Horse) might be a better choice.

Ferret- you know I"m just coming to get my book! I still have Leonard Cohen... but not sure you're getting it back unless you threaten me with bodily harm- I LOVE it!

Maznev- well, it's famous was the main reason. Also, we haven't had much time to beta-hunt and gunks seemed relatively easy without doing a bunch of research. But we're open to anything once we get to the US... at least I am... especially if it's multipitch instead of cragging!

You can decide once you're here based on the weather etc. - I can give you all the guidebooks. How many days do you have for climbing? If you like longer climbs, in NH it'll be 4-8 pitches, while at the Gunks most climbs are 2 pitches (or 3 short ones). The main attraction of the Gunks is the structure of the rock, with a lot of roofs making climbing very exciting. In NH it's granite, smthg you're likely to be more familiar with. NH climbs are somewhat closer to Boston (2 or 3 hrs driving vs 4 hrs to the Gunks).

We have the 7,8, 9 and 10th free, as long as our wedding hangovers have let up a bit. We head for Chicago on the 11th for weddings round 2.

We'll probably check to see if ferret's den is free before we really start couch-surfing, but believe me, you might just end up with us for a night.

Can you pm me a phone number for when we get there?

Hey folks,

that climbing talk... some extraordinary feature in this abandoned thread!

I'll have some days to spend late September (changing jobs, so there's almost three weeks off, woooot!). Still don't know what's to do, but climbing is the game. I'll let you know when there's more to tell.

Anyway, what's pretty set is the 11/12th of October, which I will be in the far west of Germany. So I'd be happy to find someone to hit the Ettringen or Freyr or something around that for the weekend. Anybody in?

Have a nice one, either side of the big blue bathtub

d.

Would be cool to have you around! Are you still in Costa Rica?

Stone hopefully is a little more aggressive in promoting the whateverclimbingandbeerdrinking festival in Ettringen in next May. I totally missed it this year Frown

We'll most likely be around, but you know - we have a hard time planning two hours into the future, let alone two months!

More 'other' news:
- We will be in Italy climbing Sept 27-29 (another Dolomite trip) and I think there is a dinner getting organized in Arco one of those nights... probably the 27th...
-WE BOTH QUIT SMOKING!!! (It's been 2months plus for P, and 5 weeks for me!)

Already did contact Marc, there's a friend of mine in Cologne I could stay at, there's relatives for backup... guess I just jump into and tell the guys not to book a flight home that weekend.

Still don't know how to handle that free time I got, but Arco in Sept... sounds cooool (the good cool that is). I got someone with a little too much time at hand, so maybe that'd be worth a trip. Would be awesome to see Heikino again too. And the Valley's would be on the way back... *drool*

- Daniel

edit to say: Wooot & great move on the smoking! I still don't feel like starting over, so maybe I'm a non-smoker now. Oh my do those funny cigarettes taste ugly now, let alone the breath of the next morning...

Hi Guys - Anyone need a partner for climbing (somewhere) in Bavaria this weekend? All my regular partners are either on vacation in Italy, or otherwise occupied. Will drive.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Sounds teasing, but I'm occupied with chasing noobs up the walls in Löbejün again (that's not a bad heavy metal band but a quarry close to Halle/Saale). Let's hope the weather plays fair...

Have fun!

Yep, still in sunny banana-land and still working carbon, although traveling much less lately What I wouldn't give for some cllmbing with good company, then a beer or 10 and chase it all down with some Schnaps shots with Petje. It was a great day and a half.

Climb safe everyone.

Julia, i just came across your old post on "congo star". The start isn't hard to find but if you follow the arrow painted at the base you arrive at the start of the 2nd pitch. Thus we climbed p2, concluded that we were on the wrong route and rappelled :) After wandering around for quite a while we finally figured it out and headed back up again. Then after 6 pitches my partner (who had told me before he climbed 6a-6b) complained that the route was too hard for him even to follow, climbing shoes being too tight and what not, and we rapelled again :(
cheers,
-Alex

Well, I say half... I'll be getting around 1/3 or 1/4 the hours...
