update: the cast is off Woot!! other than having a student nurse almost cut my leg while he was cutting off the cast, all went well. I now have a hairy, shriveled, skin flaking off, numb leg. well, the top of the foot its numb. I actually took the dog for a little walk. The whole leg feels wonky cause it's weak, but it feels so damn good.... other than the muscles in the back of the leg that keep spasming.

That sounds great Marge, except for the hairy, shrivel, skin flaking part. Any snow left up there? Be careful out there.

Yesterday I got the go ahead to start transitioning off my crutches, a process that I started about a week ago. I too have a shriveled, wonky leg. Luckily I've got a pretty good brace and an employer that lets me wear shorts to work so I can take the brace off during the day when I'm just sitting on my ass (read: most of the day). The good thing about finally being able to walk around more on it is that the muscles start firing like they should and begin their comeback.

Welcome back to the land of no-casts Marge! Glad you are up & about, I'm sure it feels awesome! Muscle atrophy is sucky for all - it's good to hear you are both healing and getting better. Crutches aren't a lot of fun and neither are braces. I had a broken ankle many years ago and was stuck on crutches and then a walking cast for a few months. The stupid doctor talked about surgery til he sent me to a specialist who told me to forget surgery and get into physical therapy. 3 weeks later I was hopping & skipping..after not being able to walk for 4+ months. Glad we never did surgery.

Yes, muscle atrophy is teh suk. O, I knows...I knows. It'll come back faster than you think though, especially when you're ready to get back on that bike of yours.
