You should try on a chick harness sometimes. I'm thinking a nice pink one for you. With one teeny-tiny gear loop for all 3 of the quickdraws that you pick up while you're following the leader. I'm sure you'd look nice in it!

The sad part is it would probably fit pretty well.Crazy

I agree. I use Misty Mountain women's harnesses b/c they have large gear loops. However, I noticed that their two men's trad models both have two extra gear loops that their women's do not. Huh?!

Hilarious!

A bit of a tangential blabber here on "female" gear...

It's only been in the last ~4 years that climbing gear became branded as male and female. Prior to that there was non-gender-specified gear and there was a very small amount of women's gear, with the latter being lower-end stuff in flamboyant or gentle girl-friendly colors.

I remember when Evolv first started making shoes and the owner came to the LR and solicited our opinions about the color pink. I gave the owner a hard time...what about our opinions on performance? Turns out they already had a lot of that dialed and were really one of the leaders in making a whole variety (as opposed to one all-arounder) of performance footwear sized for gals and w/o necessarily involking Barbie or Libarace as a style guide.

Arcteryx is another company that gets my kudos for making versions of their best products (like harnesses and packs) sized differently for men and women w/o coloring them pink or putting glitter on them.

I'm not anti-pink or glitter, but I feel patronized when how we'll look is a bigger driving factor in gear design than how we'll perform.

And I hate pink. Mad

Unfortunately, I have to buy shoes for fit, since there are really only about 2 or 3 styles on the planet that fit my uber-skinny Morton's feet. So, it was with a little reluctance that I bought a pair of Boreal Lunas. They are super comfy and are working so well that I forgive them their foo-foo color. Besides, they're getting dirty enough the pink isn't so obvious. Wink I do fine in unisex harnesses, but thank goodness for women-specific shoes!

A helpful reminder posted at the local Tempe REI after a year of complaining about their sexist climbing displays.

ok I am just now able to see the photos that promted this thread.

I would probably have lost it if I saw this in a store. Or at least let out a solid bellow for a moment or two. Thats comical.

But my daughter seems to have the super-active allele of the glitter gene... don't ask me how she got it, b/c I don't think I had anything to do with it.

Pink "Dorothy" shoes with glitter, anyone?

Agree with the whole performance vs aesthetics issue.

I bought K2's She's Piste tele skis a few years ago. Not a whole lot of good women specific tele gear out at the time... I almost didn't buy the skis because they had blue flowers on them. They ski great though so I guess pretty can be functional too.

Hmmm ... well, I like pink, I like glitter (in moderation), I only wear women's specific shoes, and I have 2 harnesses, one women's specific, on "guy's" harness, and I like the women's one better.

But I do lead 5.10 trad on occasion. I'm a girl and I like being a girl. I also like being a competent climber! My boyfriend's nickname for me is "Princess Badass." I love it! :)

I use mostly men's gear, or unisex. It's my parents' fault. They brought home a shiny new bike for my 5th birthday, which happened to be a boys' bike. I was ecstatic - it looked so cool! Then it turned out they had ordered the girls' bike; it hadn't arrived in time, so they borrowed the boys' bike from the local shop to stand in and show me until the pink one arrived. I was heartbroken.

I'm not opposed to women-specific gear... except for golf clubs. You can't hit women's clubs with a 95 mph swing speed.

'xcept that, (ironically), unless I'm mistaken, from the picture your bike appears to be a men's bike!

It is a men's bike indeed! I don't fit most women's frames, I have a really long torso and monkey arms. I don't fit most women's shoes either; I have wide feet and not much arch. I've spent alot of time in field boots and I was pretty excited when manufacturer's started making women-specific boots and especially ski boots... until I realized that I was doomed to wear men's gear jsut because of the fit.

I test-rode the small Racer-X frames before I picked out my bike, and it was a really good fit. When I ordered the bike there was a wait-list... and then Titus shipped the pink one, so I got my bike in about 4 days instead of 6 weeks. Why they made a pink one, who knows?

So I do like to buy women's gear when I can, and I appreciate having something that isn't black, blue, or steel gray. I like a little color in my life.

Thanks for the link, amiga, but I don't have the time to let a video load on dial-up. I got the gist of it from the title though and quite frankly, if I had a vagina I doubt I'd ever put glitter anywhere near it.

A Titus Racer-X is another of those things which can be forgiven for being pink. Racer-X's rock!

Got a story to go with those pics? That's not a natural position for a bike. Looks like you're ok...

Well, what happened was, the route goes up the little gouged cleft on the far right of the photo. There isn't any sight distance, so I came barreling around the corner (from about where the photo was taken), hit the base of the cleft, made it up about two feet and my front rim hit the wall, but I had alot of speed, so me & the bike kinda richocheted off to the left, and I bailed! My Bike landed in about the position its in right now. I kinda did a running dyno move off the wall.... you know how those go...... "eeeekkkk!!!" and its over that fast! Heh :) Anyhow I pulled my bike about a foot over, so my friend Jeff could try to ride up the gouge.... Instead he stopped and burst out laughing, and took those photos. I forget whether we rode that section, but if you PM me, I'll send ya to our Putfile website for video of a steep little barrel chute I DID ride. Starring, of course, the pink racer -x :) I couldn't figure out how to embed the video.

Gooseberry Mesa, down by Zion, is really fun!
