I leave on Tuesday to meet some friends in the valley. It will still be really hot, but not much I can do about it. We will still have fun.

I've had a great time in Squamish. Long routes, short routes, bouldering. I'm sharing a tent sight with a Slovenian guy who climbs 8b+, he's been refining my technique and I've been teaching him how to trad climb. It's been great meeting other climbers.

Nearly onsighted my first .11 on gear. Monday is the last day, I really hope I send it. I could stay here for a few more weeks, easy!

Pix to come.

You only just got to Squamish and you're already leaving?! For a place too hot to climb at too!

pssst - near onighting is just a nice way to say that you didn't send btw.
I nearly flashed a 13a today. If I just would have made it through the crux I would have been home free on the 5.10 finish.

See how well that works?

It makes it sound like I was really close doesn't it?

That wasn't very nice.
Why are you still climbing routes you already RP'd? Are you afraid to fail?

Actually the b/c is closer to a if you know where you are going.

Yeah, monday the 25th - 27th? Sure
The bitch of it is, I have no cell in the valley and didn't find internet anywhere. There's gotta be wireless somewhere in that ditch...

Hey art, can you help?

what will probably happen is I'll leave the valley the friday before and crash at my friends in San Fran or somewhere that I'll have cell, and give you a call. You have the same cell, right?

Alternatively, if I can find reliable wireless, we can coordinate no problem via email.

Yes, I just noticed that but figured you'd be along to correct before I was (choosing not to be GUd here).

BTW did you get rained out today? It looked like a good system moved through around 3:30 or so there.

It aint so. I'm leaving for the Midwest where I'll be busy and probably not have much intardnet access for a couple weeks.

You're going to be buried when you get back!
Wut ever.

I'll be on more than when we went to the Canadian Midwest.

You on the other hand, you will be buried very deep by the time you are done with your trip.
okay now I'm really confused. I thought you were going to WI for a family thingy. Why are you going to the canadian midwest? Where exactly is the canadian midwest? we don't have a midwest. We have a north, south, east and west. No mid west. You are not in America anymore dorothy

Wow....are you drunk?

Or do you just not understand the difference between past and present tense.

When we went to Alberta last year there was a frinkn algae bloom in the OBET.

I wasn't drunk, I just couldn't see very well to read. Crazy Thanks for clearing up that little word went for me.

Admit it, you were smashed!
I never admit anything. I was going to ask you though, being Canadian and all, and living west. Do we have a Canadian mid west? I think not.

Nope no midwest in Canada...

There's the East Coast, Frog land, Onterrible, Nothern Onterrible, Alberta, teh Rockies, teh Purcells, the interior, the Coast Range, the West Coast, Nothern BC, The Yukon (Kick ass place BTW), NWT's, Nunavut and Baffin Island then Back to the NewfyLand.

I have heard there is something between Nothern Onterrible and ALberta, but I'm nto quite sure what it is.... Pugitory comes to mind, hell (but only in summer), hell frozen over (but only in winter)... these things I've been told.
hahah a simple no answer would have sufficed, but okay I like your description and totally agree. So nate, there is NO midwest Canada
There is now Canadian Midwest... only a great void between Canada East and Canada West.
sounds to me like saskatchewan/manitoba is the canuckian midwest.

OK, stinkyfingers, about that Eddy...

Feeds slack out like a fucking dream compared to the GriGri! Locks up very much with ease on a Beal Joker. About the lowering with it... it has a completely different feel and sweet spot than any other device I have used. I think once one gets it it'll be easy and won't take much time to get. I think it's touchy in the same way as lowering with the cinch, I may have to try Malcolm's redirect biner trick. Mind you it was a freaking thunderstorm when we were trying to save our asses yesterday, and lowering my partner down on the Joker, with the tag line feeding out of the rope bucket was the only way to get down with out ropes blowing sideways and getting stuck. I have to wonder how long it would have taken another party with less bad weather experience to get off that climb.

If the damn weather had held off for just 45min to an hour we would have been able to push the route one more pitch and establish the next belay/rap station. Fucking weather. Too hot to climb till almost 4pm, so we did trail work in the first 3/4 of the day, logging out fallen trees that crossed the trail, cutting steps in the hill leading up to the routes, carving a trail across the ledge that accesses the routes.... damn that ledge was scary the first time I took a haul bag across it! Definitely a death fall at a couple points if you slipped. But hey we've put a good 8 or 9 hours of work into that trail accross the ledge now and damn is it fine! The previously most nerve racking spot is the most comfortable now.... only 80m more of trail on the ledge to fix nowCrazy

If you're in Squamish still you should try and hook up with my best friend who's there with his wife and I think a couple other Aussies. They plan to take a couple of months to climb their way south through Smith and Yosemite.

cheesetits on driving straight through to the Valley, not stopping at the places that are actually IN SEASON along the way, regardless if whether you had partners set up or not.

See... way it works is, you go to the places where people will actually BE climbing, it's easy enough from there to find someone to climb with. Not so easy to find partners when a place is too hot to climb, so all the smart ones are climbing where it's cool. Did yous momma raze any chillins who lived?

Did you check Tuolumne at least? I'd bet that's where all the climbers were, instead of down on the floor of the HotBox.
Should'a stopped in Maple Canyon, Utah. It's at 7,000 or so feet and is full of climbers right now. Then when it cools a bit you either head to Smith or Squamish. As the season turns head south again stopping at Smith then work your way to Vegas as the temps drop. Also, anything above 12,000 feet doesn't get much warmer than 70.

My partner for Whitney was on a road trip last year this time. He left Maine in June and did the above. I think he finally worked his way down to Owens River Gorge sometime in September. Either plan on heading north or to higher elevation.

There's a reason we can climb year-round in the Sierras. When there's snow on the ground we head to lower elevation. When it's 120 out we head up in the mountains. When looking at the weather, too, ( as it is vastly different from out East) take into consideration that for every 2,000 feet in elevation you gain, the temps will be - on average - 10 degrees cooler.
I hope you guys enjoyed the finger exercise, cause he doesn't listen.
if/when he ever shows his face around here, I'll try to beat some sense into his thick skull with a couple of these #6's that seem to have no other use.
well he's still out there living large and having fun.

Hopefully he doesn't do something dumb like meatbomz a hill that boyscouts can climb

Maybe he'll learn from another's mistake/s?

Speekign of which, hey Doc. How are those Crampons holding up now?

Not likely since he just booted it straight out to Yosemite rather than take some advice not to.

I even told him I'd be out at the leap that first weke end he was out in CA, but he wuz headed strait to the valley instead.

Was away for a few days. got back. House got struck by lightening yesterday 8:30 am. Made the paper. All the electronics are fried, including the phone line and internet. 3 computers, satelite dish etc etc. Blew a hole in the bathroom ceiling through the fan. Hunks of drywall missing. Shot a hole of drywall clear across the room.

Because the conversation I was making was perfectly reasonable and mildly relevant to your mild interests?
