Hey man. How goes the battle?

I'm interested in finding out how your journey goes.

Perhaps you will be in the Chicago, IL, or Milwaukee, WI area sometime. It might work out for us to take a hike or some climb. I have room at my place. Lets talk a bit, you can likely crash here for a week.

My climbing experience is not much. One climb about 75 feet up a 150 foot cliff with an experienced climber/mountaineer and a few times on indoor/outdoor climbing walls.

A two hour (or less) drive from here is Devil's Lake, WI. There is a lot of good climbs there and good hiking. I am itching to get there again. I just met someone who did some climbing there years back. We are talking about going together sometime. Also there is a guy at my work that climbs up in that area from time to time. I am going to talk to him some more to see what's up.

Also I'd like to look into some climbing and or hiking along the coast of Lake Superior. Maybe meet up with the ice climbers along the North Shore this winter.

I have just joined the sight. I guess I'm a bit chipper today. I just finished reading a book called The Hill. Written by the late Ed Homer. Ed took me on my first technical climb. While he died years ago, I didn't realize he had written a book shortly before the fatal accident climbing Mt. Rainier.

I'll Likely be in Wichita, KS for a few weeks work starting Nov. 10. Maybe you will be in the area.

Allen

iowa has silos that the owner ices over for ice climbing. its in cedar falls, IA. yeah thats right, in iowa we climb silos. there's an experience for ya. climbing in iowa is decent, but nothing to write home about. the good ice climbing is in Ouray, CO or the canadian rockies. but there aren't many places you can climb a silo.

go ahead.
laugh if you must.

How much time have you spent in the area? And what is your definition of choss? Penitente is all quite solid volcanic rock. We have some pretty nice Basalt trad routes around here too, although not very well known, and there is no literature about them. There is quite a bit of undocumented rock in this area. There is also a ton of great undiscovered bouldering. But like I said how much time have you spent in this area?

This is a spot I stumbled across recently, if you click on the image and squint hard you can see the anchors at the top of this wall.

This is what most of the climbing looks like around here.

yeah silos. only in iowa.... and maybe a few other places i haven't yet heard about. :)

i guess theres this place that they make waterfall ice on silos and for iowa, its good ice climbing. (if it was colorado, it would be a joke.) i don't know how much it costs, but if you're interested in ice climbing in a cornfield lol, let me know. i want to break in my new tools.

So Sungie, you already come through NC and out? I haven't been on here in forever. I took a few months off climbing to get my priorities straight, and now I'm back. I want to climb on something (thats not a sexual reference), so if you are going to be this way let me know. Email me on here or nathan.kellett@gmail.com

Well, the last few months, yes. What's not committed about taking a few months off to set everything straight and then coming back to climbing?

I have honestly no idea when I'll hit the lake. Prolly in spring. info would be cool, though there seems to be plenty of people from here wanting to go.
