wait until Teddy chases after a big dog that stands his ground and tears into him.. won't be so proud of him then.
Teddy does not attack other dogs. Nor does he bark up a storm.
He's also tethered whenever I am not able to manage him personally/physically(which at this stage, the only time he is off-leash is when I am doing trailwork, and I still do make sure he is either at his "spot" or, if someone has asked him over to hang out, that he's not overstaying his welcome in any way).
He's certainly not allowed to wander around and for the most part he rotates between sitting in 2 or 3 spots the entire time we are out there. I don't like it when a dog comes wandering over, with handler nowhere in sight myself.
But I know people could care less. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Carry on.

Yeah.
Yea... can't really hear what she's saying with her foot firmly in her mouth.

Yeah.
1) He was at HIS house, not in a public place. 2) This instance wasn't an aggressive response, nor were the other dogs aggressive. It was like the two dogs were "Chicken? Do I smell chicken? And if we wave our tails, might we have some?" and Teddy was like "My chicken! Mine, mine, mine!"
I feel pretty confident this is not any sort of behavior that would be played out on an "equal" playing field(and yes, dogs do generally have rules of engagement that they follow).
But, if you(not "you" you, CB) have created or adopted a nut-job dog who can't be trusted, then - yes, it is a good idea to keep that dog under physical control, since if it would attack another dog in such a situation, it would probably attack a person in the same situation.

Which doesn't mean he isn't a bother.
Last year Teddy was tethered (with a rather long tether) at the base of Betty. He was parked under the start when we arrived and was agreeable enough when we shooed him off. But he would periodically come back under foot or on the rope tarp and need to be shooed again. Not a big deal, of course, but you always post as if your dog is an angel and couldn't possibly have ever inconvenienced anyone.

I do try to set him up in a way that doesn't allow him to get at other people's stuff, and apologize for my oversight in the case you described. I'll try to be more careful in the future.

Teddy best be careful. I had a guy with 2 german shepherds let them run up to my dogs at the park (despite my very vocal warnings), I guess he was used to ruling the roost and letting his menaces run free. They made an aggressive gesture and my dogs quickly eliminated the threat. Watching two 90lb shepherds tuck tail was pretty funny. Just like with people, if you mouth off enough eventually you'll run into the wrong guy......all dogs should be on a leash when in any public place, period, unless it's a designated doggy park.
Agreed thats all I am trying to say. LEASH YOUR MUTTS. Its not so hard to grasp the concept is it. I leash my dog and chose not to take her climbing, simply because its a pain in the ass. Expecially for the others around. Nobody likes your dog. But they love their dog. I loves me mammal, But do not wish to impose others to the mammal. Some folks are fuckin blind to this.

jeezus, i actually agree with you. people never recognize the shitty behavior of THEIR dogs. Much like folks with little kids who think their crappy behavior is so cute.
oh yeah, i've a devoted dog owner, but i leave her at home when at th crags.

Your so blind you cant see your nose, and Teddy is a pita if you know it or not. Nobody wants to mess with your dog. They may act like its not a problem, but inside of thier minds they are talking shit about him bothering them to death

Can you imagine being bothered to death? Excruciatingly horrible!
Yes, I know that "my angel" is not beloved by everyone. But he does seem to have quite a fan club. Can't please everybody, that's true. And I do try to make his impact as little as possible. I will fall short, at times, and am sorry for that.

If you really want to make his impact as little as possible and want to quit endless apologizing, leave him the fuck home.

I hate it when I walk up to a climb and someone's dog starts barking and snarling at me. I have no idea if your dog is naughty or nice. Then you make snarky remarks about how friendly the dog is and what's wrong with me.
